OK,

I'm completely baffled.

This is my current rig

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional , Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6850 @ 3.00GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 11
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 4GB DDR2
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 460 GTX, 1GB, Golden Sample (Gainward)
Motherboard: Intel Corporation, DG33BU, AAD79951-407, AZBU748000FU
PSU: Coolermaster rs750 GX-series

I recently upgraded my psu and ram, and swapped my 8800gts for a 460 gtx this morning.

I've installed the right drivers... twice now.

I've run several benchamarks, all coming back lower than average.

Now, when I try to play games the 8800gts could easily handle i get seriously low fps and the load times into each game has doubled (at least).

Windows popped this error today too "Your version of Intel Active Management Technology isn't compatible with this version of Windows."

As you can see i'm running a legit copy of windows 7 64bit.

are the 2 issues linked?

HELP! I'm pulling my hair out over here!

Download GPU-Z, check there. Look at bus width, check what PCI-Express speed its running at.

My 580 was running at x1 because I didnt seat it properly, was performing worse than a 280. I figured out the problem, took it out and reseated it. Worked perfectly after that.

In short, take your card out - put it back in, make sure its in properly.

Note; this might not change a single thing, but it sounds similar to what I got so just suggesting it.

Ah mine said @ 1x, if yours says @ 16x then its working normaly in that regard. Still, I'd take it out and put it back in anyway, just as a precaution.

Was everything ok after upgrading your PSU and RAM but before the graphics card?

OK,

I've uninstalled all the graphics card drivers once again and now it's even worse than before, on default settings i was getting a benchmark score of 1770 through MSI Kombustor. Now I'm getting scores of 850 with a noticeable decrease in speed again.

any other ideas? Do pci-e 2.0 GPU's still run on pci-e 1.1? is that the thorn in my side? i thought they were backwards compatible... now i'm just rambling.

Hey

Have you tried running msi Afterburner to check the clock speeds while under load, it sounds like your card is not up clocking to meet the need leading to slow performance.

May not be just taking a guess.

i've ran Afterburner and all the clock speeds are set at default.

Kombustor is now telling me i'm averaging 50fps on its benchmark on dx11 1680x1050 with post FX checked.

Yet as soon as i attempt to run a game (Bad Company 2 for example) the menu screen lags, then the load in lags for ages, then the game runs at stupidly low fps.

Is this a faulty card? or has it something to do with my other hardware? could my mobo be too old to handle this card, or is my processor bottle necking and slowing the whole pc?

I'd love to resolve this, been working on it solidly for 10 hours now

thanks for all the advice so far, but nothing seems to work

OK,

Try and fix that error first.

Maybe get latest drivers/bios for the motherboard.

What drivers for the graphics card are you using?

Check that both the psu connectors into the graphics card are both completely plugged in.

Also when installing the Nvidia drivers select "custom installation" and uncheck the 3d vision stuff, Nvidia update (You should only have the Driver and physx ticked) and check the "clean install" button.

I'm using the 280.26 nvidia driver.

I've addressed the motherboard updates via the intel download center. Everything seems fine and that error is now fixed, at least...

But, still, my card seems to chug along as slow as possible...

I really don't understand it.

ive taken the card out uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers completely 4 times now, made sure both 6 pin power connectors are attached. It's securely in place. There's plenty of cooling. all the boxes are checked... but apparently not.

I'm very tempted to put my 8800gts back in, because it near doubles the performance of this 460 right now.

Its immensely frustrating now.

Short of a clean windows install, i've got no other ideas.

And that's where the plot thickens, I've misplaced my windows 7 disk! bah!

As Brookert suggested earlier I'm gunna try taking my card out, uninstalling completely with onboard, then plug back in and reinstall...

that might work..

here goes nothing!
