While playing Dayz my GPU usage is spiking all over the place, im smooth with 60fps then all of a sudden im 20fps and its super slow. When i check MSI AB for GPU usage its like a canadian mountain side

If i play without v-sync i get really bad screen tearing (only reason i use v-sync is because of this on DayZ)

if your cards cant push 60fps they will vsync at 30. if they cant do 30 they will sync at 20, then 15, then 12, etc.

if you have an nvidia card you can try adapative vsync which will turn it on when you push frames above the refresh but turn it off when you don't. I can't remember if AMD has something like this.

Sounds about right for ARMA II, honestly.
If it's doing that in towns then it's normal. In the countryside, not so much.

Arma2 and dayz is very CPU demanding game. Dayz even more so, when in big towns its all the zombies that kill perform. The zombies are using soldiers models and have bone structures etc

In the standalone this is getting sorted and performance will be much higher.

You could try using dynamic vsync in radeonpro, same thing as adapative vsync, But I dont think it will matter tbh.

Yeah i know its problems I've played it for a year or so, i can never remember it being this bad though (my memory is bad so i cannot remember if i had the same issues with my 6850). Also sometimes randomly could be 2hours or 5minutes i get a drop from say 50fps to 5fps and everything is slow motion for 5seconds and then normal again. I've been checking temps and nothing wrong there

Also something else i noticed is on Arma 2 menu before you get ingame i have horrible coil whine and my GPU usage is at 99% :s (card gets very hot very fast). Seems strange to me as its on the the menu

at end of day the servers you play on are as important as your comp

laggy server will drop your fps

so even the best pcs in dayz will drop beloew 60 fps at some point just cause of server.

as someone else just said cpu power in this is very important.

try to get 60 fps but as long as you dont below 30 you should be okay. dont use v sync.
