GPU2 CPU usage?

The GPU2 client shouldn't need a whole core from my E6600 should it

Task manager is showing fahcore11.exe using 50% i.e. a whole core.

Well my 8800 GTS only uses 3% of my Q9450, but the 9800 GTX wants 50% of my E6600.

I know those GPU's are round the wrong way but I only have the 9800 GTX temporarily, and it was the easiest machine to get it crunching in quickly. Also the E6600 rig is 24/7.

It seems to be working ok (fahmon just shows it as *hung* even though it's checkpointing fine) I just can't really run the SMP client as well.

You can tick the box marked "ignore asynchronous clock" in the monitoring section of options in FahMon to get rid of the *hung* message

Cheers for that all my clients keep going red and the PPD dissappearing, been bugging the hell outta me lol.

And wierd how some people have to give a whole core and others only a few %

I mean surely 1 core of the E6600 cant be that much slower than 1 core of the Q9450. I mean we're talking 2.4GHz vs 2.66GHz but an increase of 47%.
Although at 50% it's basically hitting the roof of the processor.

Oddly the CPU temperature does not increase by even 1°C so the CPU isn't actually doing anything

I will leave it overnight and make sure it's settled then run a little experiment and report back :)

8800GS uses a whole core of my Q6600.

Are you on XP?

So far I have noticed:

My 8800GTS is on Vista and is uses 3% of a Q9450
My 9800GTX is on XP and is using 50% of an E6600.

Verbals is on Vista and is using 39% (high because it's an old single core processor)

If you are on XP and your 8800 GS is using a whole core that could be the problem and there could finally be a good reason to switch to Vista :D

Yeggstry Vista or XP?

We still don't know exactly why XP always shows 100% ... maybe an overload related to the way driver/kernel communication works in XP. Keep in mind that Vista introduced a new driver model.

Seems like they are aware of the problem.

Yeggstry they might be interested in your setup as I think your probably the only person running XP whose not sacrificing a whole core to the GPU client?

You can point me to where that is please? :)

LMAO, sorry, cant believe I forgot to include the link

The thread where I read the post by toTOW is here
The last post was on the 11th July though.

I wonder how your setup is different to everyone elses

Perhaps something to do with your priority prgram.

I honestly can't see how anything can cause that, except maybe minor differences between the WU's

Has the fahcore11.exe CPU usage % dropped?

The only thing I can think is it might somehow be related to that self reboot at 9am.

Do you run anything that can monitor the GPU usage %?
Might be worth looking at how much of the GPU core it is actually using.

Bah! Humbug!

Need to finish sorting out my main rig :(

It's priming :p

And yeah I'm really looking forward to this weeks news mostly thanks to verbal ;)

The GPU2 client needs a whole core of my E6600 (XP), if it doesn't get it, it EUE's, the words spoilt and brat spring to mind.

I'm assuming it probably shouldn't behave like this? i.e. if it doesn't get a whole core it should just slow down not EUE

Ok I've installed Vista Home Premium 64 and the 9800 GTX is still using a whole core.

This must surely mean that it's being limited by the CPU speed?

Will have to see if OCing it a little helps, what do you think?

It's a brand new 9800 GTX I sincerely hope the memory is not on it's way out

I will have a play with RivaTuner and the resolution.

Only problem is I'm going away on Sunday for a week, so I wont be able to do anything until I get back :(

I am already downloading 175.19 drivers as recommend by the nvidia driver tool.

It could be a driver issue it does seem to be perfectly fine without drivers installed lol.

Yup normal drivers are even worse.

Oh well, it'll have to wait a week cause I'm not here.

Will stick the 8600GT in tomorrow instead.

Thanks for all your help guys :)

Will probably put me out of the running for anywhere except last on the race to a million *sigh*

If it's any help, my 8800GT takes a whole core (50%) of my Athlon 64x2 4200 in Win XP Pro...

It does about 2700ppd, so I've stopped using the SMP completely as I only had one core left!

On a dual core the GPU and SMP fight for the cores constantly and neither seems to achieve much at all..:(

I get way more ppd from the GPU on its own.

Most people find the GPU client core uses a whole core on XP :)

I think the 8800GT should be producing way more than 2700ppd unless it's being limited by the processor

I'm pretty sure it should be good for about 4000+
