Hi

Ive been having a problem lately with my 4870 X2 card. When running a fullscreen game, i get what i can only describe as VHS style tracking lines. Put it in windowed and its fine.

So far ive tried...

Other port on card (no change)
Another monitor on both ports (that mon did same)
DVI cable (no change)
Went back to 9.1, loaded COD4 to test, first time fine, loaded again, lines, but less than on 9.2.

Not sure if its needed..but heres the spec.

Q9550
8gb OCZ Reaper
4870 X2
4870 1Gb
Asus Rampage Formula

Im not sure when the problem started tbh, i play most games windowed as i use irc etc a lot. But obviously if its a faulty component, i want to get it sorted before warranty runs out etc.
I was going to try and roll back to 8.12, but thought id post here for some advice

Cheers

I had something similar to this in Fear2 but I haven't experienced it any other games yet. I went back to using 8.12 and the problem went. Hope this helps. :)

I think V Sync is called sync every frame in COD4 ? Its set to no.
I never change it, all games i leave as default. Never had probs before.

I might try going back to 8.12 then.

So its mor elikely a driver / software issue than a faulty card ? As i said, i play most games windowed anyway. I just dont want to have a faulty card and not get it sorted.

Thanks

I have been having this problem for ages 8.12, 9.1 and 9.2 If you put Cat ai to off i.e no crossfire then the fault has gone.

To me it feels like the cards are getting the wrong voltage?? It,s very very annoying..

Afaik, the crossfire is all on board for the X2. No software settings effect it, unless ofc ur running 2 of them.

In 2d mode the X2 should be 1.05v, in 3d mode its 1.25v.

Ill try it tonight. But its stopped doing it in COD4. Not tried any others yet. And i havent rolled back any further.

It def wasnt doing this when i first built it though....which is why im thinking it driver related.
I play EVE and hit 400 fps+ in some parts, and dont get any problems with display in windowed.

It's not absolute framerate that causes it, it's a "beat frequency" between the framerateand the refresh rate, like tuning a guitar, when the notes get closer together the wawawawawawa of their out of tuneness slows down, as they separate it speeds up into a disonant mash.
Just as the number of "wa's" or more correctly "beats" per second increases as the notes move apart, so the number of tear lines on the screen increases as the framerate moves away from the refresh rate (or a factor/multiple thereof)......70FPS on a 60Hz screen can be RANCID looking. lots of tears does a surprising impression of a VCR in fast forward.
