Grangemouth Strike

I know you run a taxi business but surely you could just make some arrangements to get fuel from as far afield as...England!

glasgow to the nearest Big petrol station in england not filled with scottish people panic buying is going to be at least a 200 mile round trip.

Thats what ? a 1/5 of your tank used just getting back from filling up. Way to go to throw your budget right out.

Yes, we all know that was a stupid comment. I think he was meaning 'supply', as most taxi's have a yard with a storage tank.

Even still.

they do ?

most taxi ranks round here are just run from pokey offices. Our nearest taxi place is run from a tiny office above a fish and chip shop. I've seen quite a few in leeds that are the same. Theres even one round the back of wetherspoons in huddersfield that literally is the size of a box bedroom in a 3 bed semi. With a massive window at one end so you can see how small it is lol.

He said he runs a taxi company. He may have a yard, he may not.

My aunt does as well, with 24 cars and 10 mini buses. They certainly don't all go trotting off to the petrol station, too expensive anyway. She has a tank that lasts about two weeks.

I don't think it is stupid at all and if it was a case of my business going down the pan or getting some fuel in (and therefore probably getting a lot of the business which other companies would be missing out on) I would go for it.

There is another idea - buy fuel off other taxi companies.

You think it is viable to get it down south? I would think that any local fluctuations in petrol here are likely over a period of weeks to hit the rest of the country. As demand rises up here, prices down south go up because of that.

“The union is well aware that a 48-hour strike will cause fuel chaos in Scotland and the north of England for weeks on end,” said Tom Crotty, the chief executive of Ineos." - Owners since they bought out BP. Scaremongering perhaps, but it would not be pretty.

It would dry up here, and become scarcer and more expensive down south.

Companies are likely to store as much as they can I would have thought.

unfortunately no yard or tanks of derv, but if worst comes to worse my dads mate is a farmer and they'll end up burning cherry for a while

just have to remember and send a cheque off to the government for all the duty i dont pay :)

In a week or so, there will most probably be a thread here entitled "Grangemouth Closure : What was all the fuss about??". :p

Thats not good. I certainly couldn't get t work if there was a petrol shortage. There's sod all I could do about it and would work from home.

Fair play to you, at least you could work from home, a lot could not.

I'm not that fussed about the whole thing, sorry to sound very "I'm alright Jack" but the same will apply to me this time as it did during the fuel protests/shortages last time.

Warrant card, official signed letter from the C.F.O. and drive to the front of the queue. :p

given that grangemouth supplies the north of england as well it would mean that they get their supplys diverted as well
we will only start to see the effects in a week or two, dont think the central belt will be affected much but further up north it might be
i suspect aberdeen may be ok if they can ship it in
