Hi,

Need to vent some frustration!

I was waiting at some traffic lights and about to turn left the lights where still red, so I look in the rear view mirror and I could see an Old lady driving a micra and she wasn't even looking at the road (looking to the left at a charity shop to her left) and went straight into the back of the car I was driving.

So I had to go around the corner and park at the side of the road and my instructor said "christ! not again" LOL

So the old women said it was my fault because it was a green light when actually once she droven in the back then it changed to green.Luckly there was loads of people walking about and we got about 3 eye whitnessess that said I was perfectly in the right and she was in the wrong.

anyway don't know what the instructor is going to about the car if its a writeoff etc. but I just had to let some steam of at how arrogant some old people are and have the decency to say it was my fault when she knows it not!

Vent over!

edit:

Got nasty neck and backache now, It was when I was on the way home about 5mins left of my lesson when it happened, glad it was not right at the begining as it would have ruined the day.

its not just old people that drive while looking at the shops :<
but yeah, old people driving can be very annoying!

old people are the worst sort of drivers

i was following one the other day, couldnt manage to go above 21 mph, had a worrying tendancy to stray across the central lines, and on 3 separate occassions nearly hit a bollard, an oncomming car, and another bollard he kept straying over so far !

most old people need their licenses taking off them. If you dont feel safe driving at 30 mph then you not fit to be driving.

My grandma shouldn't be allowed to drive. She has arthritis in her arms and finds it hard to lift things or move around properly, she can't even wind the window down to put a coin into the toll booths at the Tyne Tunnel, she opens the door and gets out...

I asked her what the NSL was and she thought it was 40. Another time we were in my car and I was indicating left to turn at a roundabout, the ticking noise for the indicators came on whilst I was indicating. My grandma said "whats that noise?" and we didn't know what she was talking about, then at another junction she said "there it is again"... I said "oh, the indicator?"... her: " "... turns out she didn't know what the indicator was!

Old people parking.

I was at the doctor's yesterday, and was waiting for someone to come out of a space. So i patiently sat there and waited...and waited...then watched as the elderly lady took 8 attempts to reverse out of a space in a Mk4 Astra!

When i went to park, i swung my dad's 306 estate in there with perfect ease, you could have parked a bloody tank in there!

If they're the ones with the years of driving experience, shouldn't they be better than that?

In my opinion how about a test just setup for checking whether you are still to drive, at like 65, 75 and 85 etc? Not liek your test t get your driving licence but one just to see if your happy on the different types of roads and your reactions are up to scratch.

My grandparents dont accually seem too bad. One of them still drives from here to Germany and Austria every year all fine. My grandma wants to start driving again about 20 years of not driving  She is looking at booking some lessons with her old instructor (who incidently was my driving instructor :p).

my grandad is the same , he just drives round in 1st gear all the time, maybe 2nd gear if lucky!

Don't get me started. I don't care about stereotyping, political correctness or fair treatment... OLD PEOPLE CANNOT DRIVE.

From an old bint driving in the pitch black with no lights on, totally oblivious to everyone flashing the hell out of her, an old guy pulling out to overtake on the heads of the valleys whilst I'm by the side of him, trying to push me into oncoming traffic.... not to mention the moving corpse of an antique woman driving at 39mph on the M4 in rush hour traffic... totally oblivious to the complete mayham she is causing.

Forget about boy racers, OLD PEOPLE ARE THE BANE OF SOCIETY!!! ;)

Even if the light were on green, its still her fault.

i think we should have compulsory re-tests

but make the re-test easy, just have to show the ability to drive properly !

who cares if the light was green?

there was a stationary object ahead of you.. you have to drive accordinly!!

either way, she wasnt speeding so it was ok

Glad to hear you are both OK. I did however think it's common knowledge to never accept the blame at the scene of an accident. Insurance companies advise you of that.
My wifes grandad was terrilble before he was FORCED by his doctor to give up driving. He somehow managed to get away with driving up a mile strect od dual carriageway on the wrong side of the road.
However, back in the 40's and 50's he was a royal chauffeur so probably still thinks he is immune from traffic laws.

Unfortionately a lot of older drivers are just unable to cope with modern driving conditions. The roads are busier than they have ever been but the speed of cars has risen.

It's very easy for us to sit here behind a keyboard and judge but imagine having to give up your license after you have been driving for 50 years. I've only been driving for 8 years and the idea of giving up my license is not nice, in 42 years time it may well finish me off.

Having said that I firmly believe that you should have to resit your driving test every 10 years. It will create new jobs, only cost ~£50 every 10 years (or £5/year) and it would improve standards as people would be forced to relearn what they have spent 10 years forgetting.

The simple answer is never go to sleep then. ;)

good excuse to get drunk!

yeah it getting abit worse atm, taking some pain killers.

They should retake tests when they get to 60, because there awareness skills are not upto scratch and also a lot has changed in driving since when they took there tests 40+ years ago.

I bet shes popular during rush hour :o

I've had to quickly get out of the way as an old woman mounted the curb at 20mph, and drove over another raised curb in order to get in a car park. She parked up and walked off without showing any expression.

WTF!!
