GRANNYS!

We all should make a partition and take it to 10 drowning street, Re-take tests over 65 or something, or get them off the road altogether! :D

When I were a lad, an old woman in a Fiesta decided to pull out in front of me, knocking me off my motorbike. She then had the courtesy to run over my leg while manoevering her car out of the middle of the road. After all this she had the audicity to claim that it was all my fault and that as she had a car she had right of way over motorbikes no matter what the rules of the road may say.
She also tried to launch a complaint with the police, saying that I verbally abused her while she was running over my leg. Now I don't know what most people say when they have 900kg of car on their calf muscle, but the words from my mouth were, understandably, rather foul.

they seem to think they are royals when driving and if something goes wrong its never therir own fault!

Its like when I was younger I use to shopping with my mum :o and all the old people just use to ram me with the trollys or those motorised buggie things or as I like to call them (Granny sauce mobiles). Well anyway everytime they did it I just shuved the trolly back there way and walk off!
Hehe menice to society!

Yeah prob,

Neck is aching more now gonna see if I can get a lift upto the hospital and get checked out,

You know, after reading just a few posts I find some peoples attitude reather disgusting... Everyone has the right to use the road, Old people may have slower reactions but its the fact that they deserve to get around as much as us, as someone like 9761 who is a learner driver, for someone whos only been behind the wheel a matter of weeks, you need to learn a bit more patience mate.

Remember they have passed their test, so they are allowed to drive m8 :)

when they become dangerous like the examples in this thread they should lose the ablity to drive.

But they should show other people respect on the road, Im not saying all old people are as bad as each other, no.

But most that ive encountered seem to be all the same, slow reactions etc.

I know I am still learning I am able to speak my opinion.

rubbish, they have long lost their ability to drive, i just wish they would get caught doing their 45mph through 30limits more often.......

I had a old woman in a white escort estate pull out in front of me. I was driving on possibly the straightest NSL road possible with perfect visibility. She just decided to pull out about 50m in front of me whilst I was doing 55mph. After a very quick swerve and several beeps of the horn I pulled over and approached her to make sure she didn't have a heart attack or something. She said she was fine but didn't see me??!!

Closest I've been to an accident so far.

Some old people have passed a very different test, where you had to use hand signals and traffic was unknown. The modern test is very different to what it used to be.

They are becomming and increasing minority that are quite frankly, dangerous.

I very nearly wrote my dad's brand new passat off at the weekend. I had to go to focus to pick up a gunge gun and had to take his car as mine was in bits. I was behind a car and we were coming up to the turning for a supermarket doing about 40 mphish when an old woman decided to pull out on us, cue me almost soiling myself as the car infront, me and everyone behind me slammed on the brakes. The old codger then proceeded to drive off slowly. Luckily there was no accident.

Fair enough, the test was different, but who are we to judge? I personally am IN favour of being re-tested @ 60+ but to be fair, we have no right to judge peoples driving by our standards, there are plenty of Elderly driver round where I live, yes they go slow, yes they have slower reaction times, but who am I to tell them to get off the road because they dont do things as fast as you or myself do?

Who are we to judge?!

We as road users who are putting our health and quite possible lives on the line and could be killed by people who have "slower reaction times". This isn't mentioning the inconvience of being rearended by someone who can't see past the bonnet.

Thats who we are to judge.

Well the fact that you'll fail a driving test for doing 20 in a 30 when its clear is good enough reason for me to ban them from the roads. I'm in favour of having retests for 60+ year olds, maybe at 5 year intervals.

Exactly, if they're up to the modern driving standard I'll have no problem, but like i've said, a lot of of OAPs have had tests in a totally different era. By no means victimise them, but make sure they're safe to be out on the roads, for both our and their sakes.

Despite being more of a a danger to people around them I bet they have to pay next to nothing when it comes to insurance. :(

I seen one old man turn right at the lights to a entry of a round about before

Yeh you say that, but thats based on YOUR oppinoin, the the authorities saw a problem, surley the would be doing something about it...

They could do something about it but then you'd get all the human rights activists going mad and screaming ageism, I don't think it'd be too difficult to pass a law saying people over x age must have a retest every x number of years

I wouldn't say that there wasn't a case for action just because the government aren't doing anything about it. It's not just my opinion, just look at the personal experiences.
