Original setup where my problem first started :
Z77-D3H S1155 Intel Z77
Core i5-3570K S1155
Gigabyte Radeon R9 290X OC
8GB (2x4GB) Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz CL9 XMP
256GB 830 Series SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" SSD
Windows Pro 8.1
600w corsair psu
Assumed it was a motherboard issue after troubleshooting so bought a new mb+cpu :
Gigabyte z97x-ud3h-bk
i7-4790k
Gigabyte Radeon R9 290X OC
8GB (2x4GB) Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz CL9 XMP
256GB 830 Series SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" SSD
Windows Pro 8.1
600w corsair psu
My problem - The graphics card fails to be recognised in the x16 slot but boots to desktop in the x8 slot. After a few minutes I get screen corruption along with the popup to tell me the graphics driver has stopped responding but has been restarted. Then it tends to crash / reboot.
I've got upto date graphics drivers / latest bios. (only thing i've not looked into is the gpu bios ? - never tried this before)
Tried the motherboard out of my case to make sure it's not shorting out somewhere / Tried with only the bare minimum components plugged in.
Disabled the cpu intel graphics in the bios and uninstalled the drivers from my windows install.
Set memory to run at 'enhanced stability' mode in the bios / also tried all memory slots paired or single module.
Tried an older graphics card (HIS HD 7950 3072MB GDDR5) and the same problem persists.
Tried another power supply (750w corsair psu).
The integrated graphics run games without any issues.
The only thing I've not swapped out so far is the memory / and I'm trying both my graphic cards out on a friends computer atm.
I must say, my patience has been tested
... but i refuse to throw the towel in ... for now ...
Any ideas ?
