I don't think I should help you then :p hehe (RFC). No hard feelings, two of my best friends are die hard celts :). I can see past your downfalls (banter :D).

8.8 Beta below in link. The 8.7 driver if the 8.8 Beta is problematic and if both are giving you problems then I'd try the 8.6 Hotfix drivers.

If your PSU is running the card fine then it'll be cool. I was just wondering as these cards like the juice and it's not great getting new equipment for another part to let you down.

Good luck on the move to the U.S. :)

Hey J.D

I'll be sure to checkout those drivers when I get home from work later tonight.

My PSU seems to be holding up fine with the card at the moment, fingers crossed it stays that way. I did notice the card runs at quite a high heat, from a little snooping around (google) I think this is normal for the card - I guess it's of little concern then? I think there are ways to increase the fan speed, but I'm not too bothered if the card is not going to get damaged at 60-70'

Anyway, thank you for all your kind help.

Hi Dave.

I meant
"8.8 Beta below in link. Try the 8.7 driver if the 8.8 Beta is problematic and if both are giving you problems then I'd try the 8.6 Hotfix drivers."

It was late :o.

Your PSU if holding up should be fine. I'd only start worrying with erratic PC behaviour such as random resets or shutdowns when rendering 3D.

You can create a custom fan profile for the 4850/70 to reduce the temps as the stock profile isn't too great to what people are used to. Expect about 20'C roughly with the fix and I don't think it's very audible at said speed (or it seems it from user reports I've read).

I don't think noise would be a problem, my CPU fan drowns out noise from any other part of the PC. Quite annoying. The control that came with it broke, so I've had to set it through the bios, which means every time it hits a certain heat it goes full pelt - sounds like a car revving

I spotted a thread here about the profile, so I'll give those settings a blast. Might try clocking it up a bit too. On that subject, in the overdrive menu in CCC you have the auto-tune button, is this good to use? I know quite often features like that are thrown into software but don't actually do much :P

Overdrive has been getting people so-so overclocking results but I think everyone is using the AMD overclock tool to get the most out of the ATI (AMD) range.

Tried using the overdrive tool, but under a stability test the card hit over 100' lol I've currently got the fan set at 45% constant and over clocked about half way between the default & the speeds given by the overdrive tool which seems to be holding up fine. I believe the cut off for this card is 120' before it turns itself off, still gave me a scare hitting the treble figures though! Idles at 40' now, under the stability test it's in the high 80s which is fine by me :)
