About 3-4 weeks ago now we had our lawn relaid by a company, when the guy put it down he told us give it plenty of water but don't cut it for at least 3 weeks.

though nothing of this and after 3 weeks proceeded to cut it, wasn't too impress with the quality after the cut, but decided to give it another week or so to see if it improved.

So far nothing, it still looks poor especially for what we paid so we've phoned the company up to try and get them to look at it. They promised to send someone out this Monday or Tuesday.

Phoned again today to see when they were coming and got through to a woman who is supposedly in charge. Explained the situation and she basically just snapped at me saying there's nothing wrong with the turf they supply and it must be me. explained that I followed the guys instruction to the letter i.e. water well and don't cut for 3 weeks. again she immediately snapped back saying I was talking rubbish and it should be cut within 7 days.

after another few mins explaining that it was her guys who told me 3 weeks she slammed the phone down.

So what's the next step? I want some £££ for this mess so who do I have to call to get up with bitch's arse ?

Write a horrible letter explaining the problem and also how very unimpressed you were with the customer service?

trust me there not a big company and if the letter wen't through her which it'll probably will it'll be straight into the bin / shredder.

1. Reasonable letter
2. Recorded delivery letter stating your rights
3. letter informing them of legal action (feel free to start MCOL at this point).

4. who knows, see them in court if they want to take it that far, you could lose though.

How bad is it anyway - pictures? So long as there's no weeds in it or bald patches I wouldn't be too concerned, it'll grow stronger next year (recommend a lot of feed about october - you'll reep the rewards next year).

thanks all will start with the letter and go from there see what response.

There's bits where its very very thin almost small patch's, nothing like a freshly laid lawn should be like. I've seen football pitches look better after a match.

I wouldn't put up with this for a second. I'd be straight down there to sort this out face to face. If I've paid good money for a product then I expect that product to deliver. If not, then I'm straight down there. If they're local that is.

Post some pictures for our botanical experts here to analyse. :)

I have done work experience at Rolawn, i learnt an awful lot. basically, if you cut over 1/3 of the grass blade you effectivley kill it. This is ok for most lawns as people are like bah w/e grass....but when you have 1 pure good specie of grass plant as grown by a company newly laid, you need to treat it like a baby, only cut 1/3 of the blade off. no more than every 3 days, and maybe but more than water on it at first.

this is what it looked like when just laid

and this is what its like now

Are the gaps where the turfs start and finish?

When you watered it, did you just give it a sprinkle or did you let it really soak in?

naww the gaps a random and over quite an area when you look close.

Yep plenty of water sprinkler going for a few hours or so each time but not to the extent of drowning it.

Put quite a bit of turf down on the fronts in patches and thats taken fine every time, nothing as bad as this.

From that picture it doesn't actually look too bad. It will more than likely sort itself out but a feed wouldn't go amiss. Lawn experts recommend you feed your lawn 4 times a year but not with that evergreen rubbish, do a bit of searching online and you can find the proffesional feeds and the advice to go with it.

my turf looks like that in some places and its been down for 4 months
unless you paid ££££££ for your turf then i dont think your gonna get far mate
it looks like its taken really well tbh

get some seed and feed and wait till next year once the grass has seeded its self aswell it will be really thick and lush
ohh and a waited untill i couldnt pull mine up at the corners before i cut it was about 4/5 weeks

It is actually really difficult to kill grass, so leave it alone, carry on with the watering and don't cut too close. Whilst I appreciate that you expected more, it doesn't really look that bad. Maybe suggets that the guy who laid it comes around to review it.

Our chickens ate our entire lawn, not a scrap of green showing anywhere and it's come back in a better condition than it was before we let them eat it.
