hi there

Does anyone know if grass snakes eat fish as i just witnessed a huge grass snake swim across our pond , and all our fish seem to be out of sight , perhaps ther got spooked and are at the bottom , i think they eat frogs as our frog numbers has slightly decreased in the last month.

Anyway this grass snake is the biggest ive ever seen , i did spot it last year in our neigbours garden so it must be living nearby.

it must be about 80cm long and a body of about 4 to 5cm wide

Ive got a nice video of it here-

Grass snakes are known for eating fish also frogs and newts.... quite a common occurance for them to feast down on fish .

How many fish were in your pond?

I think depending on the size of the grass snake i reckon it may only have eaten 3 at most - wat size r ur fish ?

and no point posting on the forums when you could be killing the snake ...

u man enough to kill the grasssnake coz it's gonna eat all your fish.

and post your heroics on youtube.

All British snakes are protected by Law that includes disturbing them apparently.... the disturbing them i think only applys to the Smooth Snake.... cause there stupidly rare.. apparently.

so dont chuck it on youtube lol... ;)

Good looking snake! :D

Having them in your area is actually a sign of good habitat etc. no polution etc...

Why would you kill it???

Dont be a ****

Its not often you see snakes in this country, if its causing you a problem, catch it in some sort of cage and take it to be released somewhere

my garden is surrounded by gardens that have a lot of dry leavey undergrowth which i think they like .
just checked my fish and they seem to be very spooked and are all hiding under the lillys at the bottom
