Great Covers!

Ultraviolence - Paranoid

Any cover version that results in it's creator receiving death threats from hardcore Sabbath fans gets a thumbs up in my eyes.

As before I think Johnny Cash - Hurt and Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower would be the best cover versions for me. Embrace - How Come cover that they did for the Live Lounge is actually pretty good though and I've also been listening to Infernal covering Self Control recently - not the best but not a bad stab at it considering they are cheesy Euro pop.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

So good, who can name the original without google? :p

Leonard Cohen?

Didn't google, but cheated a different way: read the album credits!

Janis Joplin: "Piece of My Heart".

And just to annoy the Zep fans: Ann and Nancy Wilson's live cover of "Battle of Evermore". Note that it's the version credited to Ann and Nancy Wilson, not the version credited to The Lovemongers - it works better when Ann sings in a lower register.

.Rod Stewart or Sheryl Crows versions of Cat Stevens "First cut is the deepest"

I like all three versions but the covers do seem to embed more emotion.

Nirvana covering Bowies The man who sold the world

And my fav cover of all is Roy Buchanan covering Down by the river (Neil Young)

Muse's cover of Feeling Good.
Nightwish - Phantom Of The Opera.
Killswitch Engage's cover of Holy Diver, if not just for the video (

I'd file that under: why bother? He even sings like Dio. If you're going to do a cover, the point is to make it your own, not just impersonate the original surely?
