Greece Elections

Have they? The 40% pensions are still there. The 49% tax evasion is still there. Greece never got serious about austerity.

yup, they've already been told they need to implement some structural reform before further debt relief can be discussed... the various silly games we've had over the past few weeks don't exactly inspire any confidence in the current Greek government

I hear the Greek delegation brought a cake then ate it in front of everyone before demanding they give the Greek delegation some of their cakes :P

I heard that Greece was forced at gun point to buy a cake and feed it to English and German bankers who promptly vomited it up over the Greeks who were then made to buy more cake for the bankers and pay for the bankers clothes and shoes to be cleand because the bankers got bits of sick on them while they were vomiting over the Greeks.

I don't think the Greeks are going anywhere. They are given crucial deadline after crucial deadline and they are still here.

I use to have little sympathy for them but I find myself admiring their stance more and more. The rest of the EU look like a load of headless chickens running about in this crisis.

True, for a long time now the Greeks and its creditors have just kicked the preferably can down the road without coming to any sort of long term agreement to solve the problem of Greece’s finances. The trouble is like most roads they all end at some point and Greece’s can is about to go about as far as it can go, by Friday the banks won’t have any more money and the government will be issuing IOU’s to it’s workers. The end game is ultimately when there is no food and medicine; this would be a humiliating embarrassment for the EU and its supporters to see a developed country quickly devolve into a 3rd world state that realis humanitarian aid to feed it’s people.

There’s still a few days to avoid this and I honestly can’t see any other solution then for Greece to leave the Euro. Set a date for it, get the printers rolling and give them some cash to get them out hole for the time being then we can all move on.

Greece has spent 90 of the last 120 years in default - yet other interested parties still lend them money.....

Correct, if anyone bothered to have run a credit check on Greece we might have avoided this situation.

the EU did - then goldman sachs cooked the books.....

Got to love the Greek government they basically say we're not going to implement reforms, we're not listening and the EU is a bunch of terrorists, oh and by the way we want another massive gift of money, sorry, sorry, I mean another emergency bailout loan. Oh, and we want it immediately. Now.

The funny thing is they'll probably get it too.

It's getting to the point now where to people won't forgive their governments if they let Greece of the hook bearing in mind that 'bailout funds' are nothing more then taxes from other states in the EU lent to one of members so I can't see Greece getting what it wants.

It will probably be the usual EU fudge, giving Greece something they want while getting some structural reforms.

Merkel will hope she can fudge it through but France and Italy's take on this has been the most surprising. Almost instantly after the no vote they got scared and talked of getting back to the deal table. This is coming from one of the two pillars of the eurozone. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the German people next who start looking to the euro exit door.

reality id the previous deal is now off the table and a new deal is likely to be worse for the Greeks than the one they've just had a referendum to reject...

the govt really has screwed up - either they take an even worse deal in a few days than the one they didn't previously want or they crash out of the euro which they also didn't want

Yeah it seems a bit of a stale mate at the moment. If the Eurozone didn't want the previous deal to be on the table any longer since the referendum rejected it surely any new deal that is tougher would also be rejected. If on the other hand the new deal is not as hard hitting it will be rejected for not being tough enough.
