Greece Elections

Should have done it months ago. Still up in the air whether it will be accepted or not.

'Beware of Greeks bearing gifts' - Virgil

It's all very well the Greeks saying there going to implement these reforms but actually putting these into action is another thing. If I were an EU finance minister I would be highly sceptical of the apparent change of heart from the Greeks.

Is anyone even reading the news? The austerity proposals are worse because they are asking for 3 years of funding and not just a few months. They are also calling for a serious look at debt relief/re-profiling, which even Merkel might be coming round to from reports yesterday. They wont get a debt reduction as such, but they probably will get better repayment/interest options.

That is why the proposals look worse than what was on the table before.

Ah, okay. So you're saying the BBC is badly misreporting this? That makes a tad more sense.

From the Telegraph:

"2. But if Greece has capitulated on the reforms, it's not a total climb down. They are asking for years of financing in return not months."

refinancing wasn't off the table in the first place, they just had to stop acting like clowns and implement some serious structural reforms first before that could be discussed

It would appear that Tsipras has kicked the can further down the road and lost his balls in doing so.

The charade continues

thing is, and I said this when the original technocrats agreed to austerity measures.... Greece is still a democracy, this plan is still unrealistic

just as the people voted in the current clowns they can vote in another lot again... I mean the current clowns were voted in on a platform of no austerity, rejected a deal... held a referendum where the Greek people rejected a deal... and now they've bent over and agreed to the austerity they were elected in the first place to say no to

European leaders really shouldn't be surprised, even if they get everything patched up and shorted now, if we have this whole charade again in the near future

the Greek population is not going to be at all happy with this deal

he's going to have a hard time selling it... he rejected the deal, the population rejected the deal... he's caused a bunch of damage to the economy in the past few days with these silly games... and now he's done a u turn and decided to accept austerity after all - the current government are clowns, they are completely weak leaders... if you're going to be anti austerity then you need to exit the euro and have your own currency that can be devalued..

They should stick to their guns. They're better off out of the Euro than letting the Troika carry on wrecking their country.

Troika didn't wreck their country, they wrecked it themselves through fiscal irresponsibility and now by acting like blood sucking parasites who want more free money.

They don't want their own currency, they want your free money i.e free money from Europe so they can keep their insane pensions and not have to pay a penny back.

Throw these parasites out now before they cause any more damage to the rest of the responsible members in the EU.

A deal still has to done, it will be interesting to see how the Greek public reacts to this because even if this deal goes through tomorrow or Sunday their government has effectively stabbed every lefty voter in back.

In hindsight the vote on Sunday should have been unconditional reform and austerity Vs. Grexit, at least then if the Greeks voted to remain in the Euro he would have had a democratic mandate to sign up for more cash.
