Greece Elections

I see there are plenty of holidays in Jul and AUg to Greece inc flights from £99 per person now.

Might sneak over and visit the inlaws in Crete and just use the package for the flights, cheaper than booking a flight.

^ I looked at Athens last night on expedia and was surprised to see they were still £400+ for a w/e

Yeah I suppose they arent bothered about discounting the flights on weekend breaks.

£99 package holiday for a week just to use the flight is a good deal. Its normally £230 to £260 for the flights if I am just booking them only to get to see the in laws. QUite often we have risked it and just booked a last minute package holiday and then when we get to the airport over there we tell the rep we dont need the bus or the accommodation for the week and walk off. :)

Am planning on snagging a last minute deal to one of the islands, take the Mrs and 2 youngest for a week of sun. Already booked 2wks for next year, and we weren't planning to go away this year, but starting to see some really good deals come up. I know it's OT, but if anyone has some good websites to find cheap deals, would appreciate any links sent in trust :)

Haven't seen anything yet about the 30% tax hike for the islands being implemented, although that was in the proposal.

The solution for Greece is to leave the Eurozone, clinging on for dear life as they are now will only result in further punitive measures being laid down on a lot of people who really can't take much more. The EU should kick this dead horse out now before it starts stinking the place up...................

This is the bottom line. Greece should exit. when the next round of bail out talks is due is due Greece will only renegade again and seek concessions.

Hows the rioting going? If I had voted in an anti austerity party, then voted no to austerity in a referendum just last week, I think I would be out throwing stones now.

wonder what odds paddypower will give on Tsipras being assassinated before the end of this year ?

It's complete shambles.

If I was in charge, the first step I would make would be straight to the tax office with a large team of accountants to comb through the books identifying potential individuals who earn more than their declared amount. Those individuals would then be investigated to identify their real annual income, and then stuck with a real tax bill.

A law also needs to be passed where the tax office requires proof of earnings from an individual to determine how much tax they must pay, rather than relying on their "honest" word.

This will rake in a lot more money than VAT hikes.

Hearing rumours that Turkish Air Force jets have transgressed into Greek territory and had to be chased off.

Happens regularly, this is a non-issue. There have been at least two other such infringements since the start of this year.

happens every day , during summer they tend to decrease in frequency so they dont slam while dogfighting into a commercial jet ,

it goes like this

8 turkish jets enter from the north
radars spot them and alert 4 f16 or mirage 2005
5 mins later they engage in dogfights
turks run back and they are chased till Smyrna
greeks come back

the result:
1.pollution
2.money wasted
3.free training for all

back on topic, the greek republic (sorry i meant the german province of mittel meer) got 7 billion today in its account, next week they pay back the money to where it came from+interest. Funny business isnt it:p

Funny how over here they always argue a cut in Tax (Corporation / Income) leads to a higher tax take overall....

Different markets, different influences. The UK is attractive for a business to a degree, far more so than Greece but far less so than USA. So we can lower taxes to encourage investors unlike Greece where no one wants to be no matter what or the USA where the prestige of being in the states is more important than ridiculously high tax rates.

its unbelievable, as if the flood gates have opened, since shops closed tonight almost everybody is out, some going to spend the weekend on the beaches nearby. Mood is becoming No1 factor in economics....
