Greedy Public Servants...

Silly really as public sector are funded by tax. If they get a payrise, the govt/council will raise taxes to cover it and they'll be out of pocket anyway as they will have to pay more tax!

With the cost of living rocketing and wages not going up in line with inflation, something has to give.

Do you blame them for trying, or the government that has taken huge tax revenues, flushed billions in waste and beaurocracy, happily milked the hard worker and given to the shirker and put nothing away for difficult times ?

Count in the fact that MP's are voting to give themselves a £24k pay rise just for giving up the money to furnish their second homes. Bear in mind also that that figure is after tax and as such, they are getting a rise of about £36k and at the same time are telling the rest of us not to be greedy and accept below inflation wage rises. Stinks of hypocrisy.

Just wanted to highlight that bit that you typed as I believe it directly corrolates to the public sector wages issue, in that they have spent billions in funding new public sector jobs that mean nothing "Nappies Co-ordinator", "Diversity Administrator" and all that rubbish. The local councils have done exactly the same and now are too bloated with jobs that shouldn't exist but which come with gold-plated pensions and union-backed wage demands.

Central and Local government has become too large under this Nu-Labour mob and it needs culling - not feeding with more cash.

Sadly the statistics (at least for central government) don't support your rant, there are fewer Civil Servants now than there were under the last Tory government.

Civil servants 1996 FTE: 494,000
Civil servants 2008 FTE: 490,000.

Oh cool - statistics. Got any for the difference in the cost for the 2 years please?

Wages are supposed to keep up with inflation, so I see nothing wrong with a request for a pay rise just above the inflation rate.

The government's offer is derisory.

Again, truth.

The offer isn't bad, no offer would be. It certainly doesn't keep up with inflation though. It hasn't since I have been a crown employee.

I have 7 staff working for me with wages between 16-21k, wouldnt call that a lot of money tbh.

They would get £392 @ 2.45% total joke.

This forum is full of the most anti public sector workers I have ever met, so because we work in the public sector we shouldnt receive a decent pay rise or receive a decent pension?
