Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [11th - 15th February 2023]

I reckon you're being pretty charitable to yourself suggesting that it was my misunderstanding . ;)

Anyway, with them still to play each other another time, and the small difference in points, a declaration that it's in either team's hands is premature. They're both in the situation that if they win all their remaining games they will be champions. But neither of them is going to, so it's meaningless.

If Robertson laughing in Pickford's face results in both sides being docked 10 points and Everton being relegated then we should build a statue of him outside Anfield.

Baz we're down mate, going to be a long time before we see another Merseyside Derby. :)
I was starting to think you were gone before Dyche's appointment but after watching you vs Arsenal, I think you've got a chance. Calvert-Lewin's availability will be massive though. Without him you offered nothing vs us but his ability to run the channels, hold up the ball and win set-plays in and around the box will be key for how Dyche plays. It's going to be all very Burnley but it might be enough to save you.

It doesn't but thats the nature of football. Going about it like some great injustice inflicted upon only Arsenal is silly. The outcome is fundamentally the same regardless of how you got there.
If it happened to you're club, the same statement you said can be translated from arsenal to your club.

End of the day, fans will call for injustice against there club. Simple as that really.

And it still a bad decision weather it was against arsenal, it doesn't matter. Its still a bad decision.

I'm not claiming it wasn't but Arteta is still going on about it. Arsenal fans are still going on about it. Most clubs just suck it up and move on. They have a whinge and then they move on.

For me, this isn’t just about us, it’s about the integrity of the game in general. That Goldbridge fellow said the same thing on his YouTube show. If you don’t join in campaigning against this sort of thing, it will affect your own team eventually, and contrary to popular belief, these things don’t even themselves out.

Mason has a history of **** poor decisions and the VAR mistake was the most monumental **** up of all. Total incompetence or corruption.

Its encouraging to finally see people like him being brought to account for their failures.

If you can’t do your job, you lose your job. Simple, just like any other industry. I would also like a younger retirement age. I think 50 is too old to keep up with a modern premier league match. Last season I genuinely thought Jon Moss was going to have a coronary at times.

I'm not sure its quite that serious :p

And of course it doesn't even itself out but you will never have 100% correct decisions in such a subjective game as football.

Sounds like he left rather than he was pushed but who knows.

I agree about the retirement age or at least having a more stringent fitness test they have to pass every season. Quite surprising how many of our "top refs" have a little gut. They should be treating it far more like an elite level profession and the top refs should be paid top top money. I think the biggest issue, like in almost every sport is the pay pyramid is ridiculous. You go down a few levels and you can't make a living. Top level refs get paid well (perhaps not well enough) but the feeder pool and path to becoming a top ref is awful.

This whole debate about the standard of refs and accountability gets brought up every 6 months and nobody seems to realise, like it or not, these are the best refs available. Sack them for making mistakes and you'll end up with a worse official coming up from the Championship, I'm not sure how that helps but if it makes you feel better go for it.

There is simply not enough people willing to become refs and like everything in life, the smaller the pool to pick from the lower the quality you'll find. And we all know why there's not enough refs - it's because of the dogs abuse they get and I'm not just talking about a few harsh words on a computer forum aimed at PL refs.
