Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [11th - 15th March 2023]

Don't the rules say if your arm is on the ground supporting your body its not classed as a handball? Pretty sure we have had a few of these this or last season and there was one in the World Cup too when it went through the players legs but hit his arm which was supporting his body as he was going down

The one today just looks clumsy as he slips and is on the deck, if his arms aren't there he falls flat on his face. Even Antony doesn't appeal, he's normally the second one in line after Bruno throwing his arms about.
He pulls his arm back after the handball and doesn't fall over, so no it's not supporting his body.

yes, and can you guess the only team to get a penalty from that situation this season...

Just seen the Casemiro challenge. I don't think there's any malice but it's not exactly great... annoying.

As for the other incidents, I think whoever you support, we can all agree refereeing/VAR is a complete mess at the moment.

Liverpool get away with the most ^^ didn't someone previously throw up a table with VAR mistakes and they were just above relegation?

Yes, however it was something like 6 out of 7 of the var overturns were ruling out a goal for offside.
can think of two stone cold red cards from Liverpool off the top of my head. (Haven't watched mnay game tho) Fabinho and Big Vigil.

Can also think of two for the toon off the top of my head also.

The PL just seems to be making a shambles of the rules around VAR which should be the easy thing to get right. Never mind the decisions.

I think the problem is its down to the referees opinion and interpretation on the day, I still can’t believe the Ref wasn’t told to go to the monitor yesterday over the pope incident, I would have been livid if that was the other way. I still think VAR should be done like the NFL where it’s a central location with 3-4 referees, a few former players and a PL representative looking at all games(it’s not as if all VAR incidents happen at the same time), ypu them don’t have a different referee every week doing a different game.

The Pope one a strange one.

From the veiw behind the goal it's looks like Raul has jumped into Pope and on his way down looking for the penalty but from the other end looks stone cold.

Bit of a different scenario to your original pont though as the var table only takes into account goals ruled out or given for offsides/pens. What constitutes a red card has been up for discussion for years as every week you see cards given and yet other games played that same day similar challenges are either yellows or ignored.

Always makes me chuckle when folks say we benefit from var decisions the most yet I can't think of any other teams that have have had goals ruled out for someone's shadow being offside, or an armpit being offside etc etc

Now if he's off side it's offside that should be simple enough. That's clean cut.

If they remeber to draw the lines!!

Newcastle actually had a apology this year about decisions

Red card to me is leading with the studs. ankle or above.

Which doesn't seem to be consistent.

Tubby red card yesterday had both and he left the ground.
