Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 19th January 2023]

No disrespect to other teams but Arsenal’s games after United are teams that they should win. They don’t play a “big” team until 8th April when they go to Anfield and then Man City in 26th April.

In between are Leeds, Palace, Everton, Villa, Brentford. Bournemouth and Leicester.

As an armchair Arsenal fan I don't take nothing for granted, on current form we are playing well but only need a dip in form or a few injuries to key players and title chances could be over. I hope we can bring in a striker this window as much as I like Eddie Nketiah.

And a CM. Need good cover there. A striker, CM and RW would be perfect.

Odegaard is Arsenals biggest worry at the moment. If he gets injured I think they could stuggle. Thought the same about Jesus though up to a point and they have been fine so who knows.

Vieria can step in for odegaard you not seen him picking passes in the cup?

I'm not sure about Vieira, seems too lightweight for me. ESR is back though and was our highest scorer in the prem last season I think, he can cover any of the 3 positions behind the striker. I think we need good cover for Partey, a backup CB and someone who can do a job across the whole of the front line.

I think we’re alright for CB’s. Holding is capable of doing a job and White is a good CB and if needed, Tomiyasu can cover for him at RB. Even Tierney can play CB. He does it for Scotland.

Holding concerns me and you can't have everyone covering for someone else. Moving White weakens us at RB and any of the other options aren't good enough for me.

Instead of everyone just going oh arsenal still have to play city twice how about turning it around and saying well city still have to go to the emirates
That's a positive for Man City though because they can use it to close the gap. Fixtures against a direct rival are a massive benefit when you are behind. Meanwhile there are no games remaining between Man City and Man Utd so they can't trip each other up so to speak.

Arsenal have lost every game against the Manchester clubs this season, if that trend continues then it could be out of their hands, even if they win every other match theoretically they might only finish 3rd (I don't expect MU to win every game though).

We've only played 1!
Correct but Arsenal haven't beaten MC in the league since 2015 and haven't even avoided defeat since the 2016-17 season. You could argue that the difference in quality between MC and Arsenal is reduced this season but the fact remains that I don't see having 2 games with MC remaining as a positive, I'd much rather it was zero.

Even if we beat Arsenal and City beat you twice that still only puts us level on points.

Saying that we all remember Newcastle and their 12 point lead in the 95/96 season or our 8 point lead with 6 matches to go only to lose the title on goal difference.

I think we are all in a bit of a lag because it is January when in reality we are not even at the half point yet. A lot can happen. Especially with Europe striking back up soon. Arsenal and United have a good core but any injuries to key players will leave them short whereas City are stacked everywhere.
