I'm not sure it's a case of trying him in midfield but just a tweak in how we're playing. Out of possession it's still 4 at the back but with the ball Trent moves central. We done this at the start of the season and the start of last season, albeit with Trent tucking inside further up the pitch rather than alongside Fabinho. It's clear we're trying to find ways to get him on the ball as much as possible and maybe this way (rather than him ending up as a number 10) gives Fab a bit more help too.

There was a good article about this formation (not just in respect of Liverpool, but Arsenal and City as well) on the Athletic the other day. I've been trying to find it but their search function is useless. It's worth digging out

Yea, I read it. There's definitely risk in the system but it has some positives and is possibly something that may suit us moving forward. It gives us the extra man in midfield which should give us more control (something we've lacked a lot this season), it gets Trent on the ball more and with our 8's then moving forwards more and occupying the oppositions fullbacks, it creates a lot of space for Salah too.
 
I don’t mind Trent playing in midfield, as long as we get a competent RB in the summer, but he can’t play this role against good teams and we lose a lot in attack with his crosses.
