Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15th - 17th April 2023]

Decent performance, the front three took their goals well, Jones moved the ball well, Trent looked like he was far happier playing in midfield but Palace put 5 past Leeds so nothing to get carried away with, they’re a seriously poor side atm.

You'll be fine. Forest are done and I can't see both Everton & Leicester catching you. In fact if Leicester don't get 6+ points from their next 3 then they're done too.
this^ tbh. Leicester vs Wolves, Leeds, Everton. Three must-wins. Lose those and Leicester almost certainly go down

Leicester's next 3 is Wolves at home, Leeds away, Everton at home - these sides are not much worse than Leicester and they could pick up a few points and change things down there.
Yeah, those will be scraps and if Leicester's good players pick up some form they're a good enough side to escape, but they just seem like a club in a massive mess

Yea, as a team they are probably the worst side in the League but they've got individual that could save them. That said, Vardy looks like a race horse that needs taking round the back of the stables with a shotgun, Barnes is injured and Maddison's probably more interested in not getting injured and killing his dream move in the summer.

The board gave Rodgers too much power after the initial good start. It might be they can steady the ship now he's gone if they can escape the drop, but FFP is choking things and I'm not sure how much wriggle room there is in the summer budget. Losing a few players EOC for free is not going to help matters. Rodgers is partly to blame for that too.

Ok, yes Leeds were terrible today but I've just seen a mental stat. Trent made 136 passes (@ 91% completion) today! To put that into perspective, Rodri has the highest average passes per 90 in the PL with 88 passes.

That stat doesn’t really do him justice when you consider how many Alonso style passes he makes from deep positions out wide.

As much as I think Gomez is finished at Liverpool I wouldn’t mind him starting at RB and keeping Trent in midfield for the rest of the season.

He wasn't really in midfield though, it makes a difference moving into midfield from RB where he can't be picked up, and having a more traditional 4 at the back when we lose the ball.

I think Gomez could actually do the full back/third centre back role which Robbo was playing today really well. Given Robbo's age I'd like to see us try Trent on the left but moving into midfield - arguably that opens the pitch out to his right foot better, and he'd have Diaz/Jota/Darwin ahead of him who are better defensively than Mo. Gomez can play right back and would fill into centre back very naturally.

Curtis Jones with another impressive game:
85 touches
51/56 passes
4/4 long balls
2 chances
1 Big Chance
1 Assist
4-4 take ons
Won 2 tackles with 11 ground duels
Possession Control +5

Who are you dropping?

Probably Henderson. Wouldn’t be surprised to see us play 4231 now we’ve got more attackers available with Fab/Hendo alongside Trent behind them.
