Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15th - 17th Dec 2020]

Turd burger football? We came from 2-0 down from a Southampton that are considered to be coached by a decent manager who themselves are in the top half of the table.

I like this rubbish of individual brilliance. That's why you buy good players for. How many times have Sallah or Mane saved Liverpool's bacon in the past 18 months?

Can’t talk about them m8

moving on...

Pointing out the hypocrisy is not complaining. Are the poor VAR decisions only given in favour United, no other teams have benefitted from VAR? VAR aside, have refs never made bad decisions for/against other teams? Do City get away with a lot of tactical fouls? Do refs tend to favour the top teams?

Aren’t we wildly off topic now?
It's not hypocrisy. All sides will benefit from bad decisions, all sides will win games that they probably didn't deserve to however none quite as often as Utd. As I said, if you can name another side that have had as many, truly awful decisions go in their favour as Utd then I'll accept your point. You won't be able to though.

What you are saying then is that there is some conspiracy of United buying the league and wins. If that was the case we wouldn't have been in a group of death in the champions League. Drawn the hardest game in the Europa League, drawn an in form Championship team in the FA cup and a decent team in the EFL cup quarters.

OK, I can’t refute it but my point was a larger one that you picked VAR out from, so my point still stands. If you can’t accept it then I don’t really see the point in discussing further.

We have had plenty of decisions go against us as well. Fred should have gotten a penalty last season against city but got yellow carded, Bailly gave away a penalty when the ball hit his shoulder. These things happen. Swings and roundabouts.

I guess we will really see where United are when we play Liverpool in January.

All teams have decent players that can win a game. Point being Ole's ineptitude gets buried because these players bail him out. Its not by design.

Where as Salah, Mane etc are all playing to a consistent vision of football.

The group of death? You went out to a bang average Leipzig team. And of course you’ve drawn a decent team in the quarter final of the EFL cup, it’s a quarter final and would be more unusual not to draw a decent team.

The issue with United is that they have absolutely no control or game management - they play well in fits and starts and have some very good players, but you rarely watch a United match and think “yeah, there’s no way this will be anything but a win”. That’s why they appear to get lucky so frequently, and why people aren’t tipping them to win anything, because sooner or later they’ll come unstuck.

No, I quite clearly didn't say that. I said you've had incredible luck :) The majority of Utd fans even accept this.

I think you're pushing this hard done by line re draws too. PSG and Leipzig was a tough draw in the CL but it was a group Utd should have progressed from and are you really concerned about Watford and Sociedad? Utd really are in a bad way if so.

Post lock down last season we seemed to be playing by design. The team has played poorly under all the managers we’ve had since SAF left.

And replying to your most recent post re comments about var etc. Do you honestly believe Utd haven't had considerable luck with decisions in the past 18 months or so? If so can you please name another club that have had a player not sent off for what Fred done vs PSG, score a goal with a handball like you did vs Leipzig, score a goal when the ball obviously went out of play vs West Ham and have a perfectly good penalty for the opposition overruled by var (not simpy not given by VAR but overturned) as what happened vs WBA? That's just this season and ignoring all the soft/marginal calls like Greenwood's penalty vs Leipzig. I'm guessing you won't be able to so you can't really complain when people comment on how lucky Utd have been.

As always you're ignoring the decisions that have gone against us, like the penalty for handball in the first half against Leipzig that was completely ignored. Or the corner that wasn't a corner that Sheffield scored from last game, or the two handed shove on Bruno off the ball that was completely ignored in the same game.

Every team gets decisions that go for and against them, only we get our positive decisions so consistently talked about and the ones against us immediately forgotten. Hated, adored but never ignored.

Like I said, it’s always a drama when United are impacted...

Drawing against Brighton and Fulham is a consistent vision of football. Okay.

Oles ineptitude by turning Rashford and Martial into 20+ goals a season with 60+ between Rashford, Martial and Greenwood last season. You do not get that by just "individual" skill. Rewatch the third goal against Sheffield United and even the first. We have done that so many times and it has nothing to do with individual skill but the collective skill of many players.

If there is ones thing I have to criticize Ole for is playing different formations. He need to stick to one but he is maturing in my eyes.

Isn’t that just because your support comes from all around the UK/The world for some bizarre reason? So naturally you’re going to attract more attention.

The whole notion of United ever getting back to the top just scares the bejeebus out of everyone as who wants another 25 years of dominance. Liverpool fans have waited 30 years for their 15 minutes and they don't want to go back to another 30 of darkness.

You mean having to endure the insufferable fans again, fortunately I don’t think we will endure that in our lifetime. The kids growing up around here will be all supporting different clubs now too \o/.

I'm not ignoring anything. What I'm saying is Utd have had more of these marginal calls go for them than against as well as having several truly awful decisions go for them. Anyway, we're going round in circles I just hope when we play you that Mane gets away with a headbutt, Fabinho gets away with a clear kick out, VAR awards a penalty for a Salah dive and Firmino punches the ball into the net :p
