Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th-19th Oct 2020]

Spurs dropped right off the pace after their third. Passing it around the sidelines around the 60th minute mark. You would have thought this season of any, teams would have been told to keep going for more.

Don't see how people expect Bale to have match-fit skills after he's played way more golf than football for the last five years! But the skills are still there.

As for the front three, "Kane, Bale & Son" sounds like a builders.

They've been lucky on injuries for several years
This gets so over played and is seemingly because VVD and Salah have never had long term injuries until now. We had our keeper out for months last season and at points in each of the last few seasons have been down to 1 CB. With the exception of Wijnaldum all our midfield have had long spells out too.

As for the back-ups point. Klopp's said time and time again that he doesn't want a huge squad and won't sign players just in case x gets injured because that creates a problem for him if you don't have those injuries. He's always said he'd rather look for solutions within the squad than carry too many extra players. Obviously had he known that VVD would pick up such a big injury so early in the season then he'd have signed somebody but the chances of it happening were fairly small and what would the alternative have been? We might have signed a Klavan type 4th choice - would he have been any better for us than Fabinho? I'm certain that the Thiago signing coupled with Gini staying was not just to improve our midfield but with 1 eye on Fabinho playing CB too.

I'm sure next summer we'd have looked to sign a better CB than we might have this summer, hopefully that happens in January instead now.

He played 39 games in 17/18, 42 games in 18/19 and 20 last year. Sure there's a bit of rust but it's not like he's been sitting on his arse for the last 5 years.

I couldn't wish worse on Pickford/Richarlison/Oliver/Coote
No ill feeling to Oliver, he's class and he did nothing wrong. Richarlison did Thiago on purpose imo but Pickford's just got a body that's slower than his brain so he'll always react too late. Won't be the last time he seriously injures someone. Coote however is just incompetent and shouldn't be allowed to be the VAR ref ever again.

Bold decision then I guess, do you have any young defenders that might get promoted to the senior team?
