Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 24th Jan 2021]

Martial looked so off it last night. Donny VDB must be wondering why he's joined if he's never going to play. Loftus Cheek, decent player in there, just needs to go Super Sayan more often.

Donny's chance will come in the Europa League. He needs to prove himself to Solskjaer. It is just the fact we have Bruno and every game is a big game so to speak so he hasn't really had a chance.

At the moment I would have Rashford, Cavani and Greenwood up front and Martial would be an impact sub who I would probably sell in the summer. Hes been given far too long without fixing the serious issues in his game and hasn't really kicked on since he arrived. Any player is going to benefit from getting a run in the team but he never keeps any momentum going.

He endemic of the sort of player that you don't want at a top club. He goes with the flow and is entirely dependent on the players around him. If the team is on top and smashing a team he will be a big part of that but when things aren't going well he is just anonymous and doesn't have the footballing brain to contribute when you need him to.

I'm afraid I have to agree. Martial appears to be too high maintenance for what he offers. In fairness he did had good form last leason and at times he has little to work with but the contrast with Cavani last night was stark. Same lack of service but the movement, work ethic and predatory instinct were all exemplary. He really schooled Martial. Martial needs to respond positively to the competition the way Luke Shaw has . However I think his body language betrays the likelihood of that.

Turns it on when the shop window is open to attract people then goes missing, what a ****

I doubt many United fans care if he pushes his value up and they get half of what they paid for him back. Especially if him playing well maintains them at or near the top. I don't think he's turning it on because of the shop window being open, no one will buy him in this window anyway and if you think that's his motivation he would have had to have started a month ago.

He's just bang average at best for united. Anything they get over 45m I would consider amazing.

It's quite clear covid was affecting him at the start of the season, he looks so much fitter and sharper now. I do laugh how no matter how Pogba plays he gets criticism though.

Its not surprising. I find it more surprising that people are OK with it in some cases. The very least you have to do as a highly paid professional is work hard and do your best. I'm not talking 100% in every game but 90%+ isn't too much to ask. Pogba quite often clocks in at 60%. He should have been looking to be our captain and leader on the pitch but he doesn't lead by example.

He gets crap because he doesn't grab hold of enough games regularly enough and then he gets criticism when he does do something like last night because it shows he is capable of it so who isn't he doing it more regularly. I don't have an issue with the criticism he gets honestly. I don't expect players to be running around like a headless chicken in order to appear busy but I do expect them to put the teams needs over their own and time and time again Pogba showboats in dangerous positions just to show how good he is. When we are under the kosh he holds onto the ball instead of moving it on to show how non-plussed he is at the opposition press etc.

Just an all around frustrating player and we should be selling in the summer unless he literally has an absolute world class second half of the season and sorts out his attitude.

I highly doubt any player 'turns it on' in January if they want sold, you'd likely want to drive interest and talks before then, no?

Pogba criticism is valid though, shown moments of being a very good player, nothing close to the 'potential'

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Matip, Robertson, Thiago, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaqiri, Mane, Origi

Haha Origi? Really...I'm beginning to wonder why we bothered to sign likes of minamino.

He might not meet acceptable standards to perform the role of a footballer but Firmino and Salah have been shocking for a few weeks and deserved to be dropped. Just a shame it's Origi rather than Jota coming in.

Minamino was excellent against Palace so I've no idea why he's not given another chance. He hasn't performed as well as people expected but he's been no worse than Firmino recently.

Not sure why Matip's been brought back so quick, Burnley have a slow attack so Phillips or Williams would've been ok tonight. Matip's going to get MMA'd at some point so hope he survives.
