Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 3rd October 2022]

Did you miss the tale of tape image? Since Fergi retired Man U have spent more than Man City. ;)

Yes I know. We are a mess and we cannot continue to spend like that or we will end up like Barcelona and the ONLY reason we could spend like that was EARNED success over a period of 25 years.

City is just everything that is wrong for the world. Take your hatred of United out of it. These state owned football teams are going to ruin football in the long run.

Whats Ten Haag got against Casemiro? is this one of those Benitez style 'i'll bench the player you bought me coz i don't like him' type of things?

Surely he's better than Eriksen/McTominay and Fred..combined?

@Tombstone can we get a goal tally update at the end of this match please? :p
Sure thing, happy to do the Maths for you again.

Haaland on 14, Nunez on 2.

Insane numbers from Haaland. If he keeps this up he will shatter all records. I continue to maintain that if anyone thinks thats a positive thing for the league though then they are deluded.

Martial level with Salah?

Perhaps that’s your new tally @Tombstone
At this point all tallies are irrelevant. 14 goals in 8 games for Haaland, thats almost 2 a game. Haaland has already scored twice as many goals as Kane, considered the best English striker of recent times. He now has 3 hattricks in a row in home games, something no striker in decades has done. His goal to min ratio is half that of any other player at 48mins per goal, almost a goal a half. If he keeps injury free he may well set records that might never get beaten again. Incredible.

Sadly all it means is that the team which was already dominating titles is simply going to continue to dominate the league titles. We could be in a situation where in a few years time, City have won 7 of the 8 league titles...which is the very situation that we English league fans are always slagging off the German, French and Spanish leagues for.

would you be saying the same thing if it was the other way around?
Yes I would and indeed I did throughout the 1970s and 80s. I like my team to win of course but I am as much a fan of the League itself as I am of my own team. Its never a good thing for a league when one team, any team, wins it year after year. Anyone who thinks it is , yet slags off other European leagues for not being competitive, are just hypocrites.

So if Glazers sell who do you think are going to buy Man U? A charity? You will be part of everything you try and berate other clubs for. “Oil”

The jealousy is getting a tad boring old boy

Realistically at this point in time, we’re looking for Newcastle to start to compete with them. The lack of proper investment from Utd on training ground and management an actual football director etc is causing them to fall behind. Everyone else like Liverpool, Arsenal etc just don’t have the funds to compete over a period of time. Chelsea are now going to be Utd where winning is irrelevant it’s making profit for the owners So they won’t be competing either.

To be fair, Utd could be owned by anyone and still be able to spend the same amount that they have over the last 10 years or so - outspending city on both wages and players they’d also have a further 2bn to spend on the club as well. Glazers biggest problem is putting yes men in place and bankers rather than people who know what they’re doing. You and I can own the club and still be able to spend the exact same amount of money.

Had a feeling we were going to get a hiding today, we have improved under ETH but anyone thinking we were suddenly competing with City away was dreaming.

Hard to be too downbeat, City are just far and away the best team in the Prem and Haaland is going to do a Babe Ruth and turn the ideas of what a sportsman can achieve on it's head and set records that last for decades.

Eriksen is turning into a liability in defence, and going forward is too inconsistent against the top sides. We really need to let Casemiro start. Rashford had a stinker again, Martial deserves the starting spot.

Sadly he's just not that good. Brazilian Cleverley who was carried by Kroos and Modric.

I thought it would be worse. Let's be honest, the scoreline/stats clearly show we're nowhere near the level of City nor any 'top' team. But we have some sort of base(albeit ageing) and a change in management that hopefully sets us up for progrssion.

Needless to say, after spending a billion in a decade we still need to spend more if we want to compete at the highest levels. Gross incompetence in the market has brought us here.
