Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 5th April 2023]

Went for a bike ride after the first half shocker and it doesn't look like I missed much. Fingers crossed we get some players back soon and we can finish the season strongly. We have a thin squad that we are stretching too thinly and its showing. We might have to prioritise soon because we are still competing on 3 fronts. We have the squad to do 2 if we are lucky.

Newcastle played well in the first half. Much more energy and cohesion. A midfield duo of Sabitzer and McTominay is a mess.

You’ve still got to play Everton and Brentford with that midfield. Not easy games.

You seem a bit rattled over an “insignificant” game.

Top 4 is far from guaranteed yet if you play a few more matches like that.

I am rattled because I have watched us all season and can see our form of the past month has been terrible and we are capable of so much more. We have been incredibly unlucky with injuries (and suspensions) to absolute key players.

The majority of our losses happening with Casemiro is case in point. Newcastle could not have faced us at home at a more perfect time for them really.

Pundits also seem to forget some of our players have played double the games as the Newcastle players. Our squad isn't strong enough to fight in 4 competitions.

It's a good loss, if there is such a thing. It shows how vital it is that we invest more in the squad and hopefully keeps the egos in check. Clearly the b-team aren't good enough for even top 4.

You use Casemiro as an excuse far too much. All teams miss big players but the mark of a good team is to find a way without that player.

I worry we're slipping back into the usual rhythm. ETH has done well but we've been a bit patchy of late. It's all a bit too familiar now, poor performance in the first half, a bit better in the second - repeat.

Hopefully the takeover goes ahead soon as I think that will have a transformative effect on the club and settle things down going forward.

How would you know? You haven't been old enough to witness winning a cup.

I'd rather top 4 and winning a cup tbh. With a potential to still win another 2 cups.

See how Newcastle play next season when they are playing 50+ games a season. ;).

Thankfully I didn't choose to support a team based on the trophies they've won.

Although you are forgetting about this great honour.

We're not a good team when you take out 2-3 of the players though, everyone knows this. If Rashford didn't go on a mad one then who would have scored the goals this season? Weghorst?

He is completely integral to how we play and I agree the big teams find a way which is where we fall incredibly short and will hopefully be addressed in the summer.

I don't want to temp fate but I can almost guarantee we will flip when he comes back and Eriksen returns from injury.

At least Martial is back now which is great considering we have spent most of the season relying on Rashford to score goals.

One thing I do understand is Klopp's frustration on the amount of games being played. Any Man United fan can see we have been blagging it for at least a month now. Mostly due to Rashford's form which has been papering over the cracks.

The Newcastle love-in is a bit OTT on Sky.

Ah, here comes Luke Shaw for the 'not good enough today' interview...

Not sure what's worse.
