Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th Feb - 1st March 2023]

How did Ziyech get that red card rescinded. The premier league is just a baffling organisation when it comes to refereeing.

I was thinking in the Spurs-Chelsea game, with that red card, that actually him giving him a red card was the 'smart' thing to do.
If he gives him a yellow, VAR aren't allowed to get involved. So if he booked him and it turned out to be a punch to the face then he's be in trouble because he's failed to send him off for a red card offence.
However if he gives a red, for something not considered a sending off offence, VAR can get involved which means he gets a chance to look at replay on a screen.

So game theory dictates due to this loophole it's best for refs to give red cards for suspected violent conduct even if they aren't sure, because then they get the benefit of a TV replay if VAR think he got it wrong. If they book them, they don't.

Lol Hasselbaink claiming Chelsea can still qualify for Europe.

Not a cat in hell’s mate
Assuming a top side wins the FA Cup, they're 3 places adrift of the European places, and have the likes of Brentford, Brighton and Fulham ahead of them. The latter has a lot of points but have also played more games. It seems unlikely but not totally implausible to me, they're also still in the Champions League so theoretically that offers another route in.

If a ref gives a yellow, the VAR room can still tell him he’s got it wrong and needs to be reviewed.

Yep, VAR can't overturn a yellow (not unless it was given for diving in a penalty situation) however they can upgrade it to a red, or advise the ref to do so anyway.

Not sure if I can post this in here but if anyone wants a free ticket to tonights Liverpool game, message me. I'm going, just have a spare.

You don't even have to sit by me, just meet me at the ground. But you will have to endure a painful 90 minutes of League 2 level of football.

If it's not allowed just remove the post mods.

Hoping Trossard starts up top again today. Can see Everton sitting deep so Eddie will be pretty useless.

Edit
Got my wish. Bench is pretty strong.
