Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 27th April 2023]

Agreed but we have beaten everyone at home bar Newcastle who we beat in the cup anyway. Players are just done this season. Having so many injuries as well it has just gotten too much. It is a common theme where we just dominate games in the first half then come completely unstuck as fatigue kicks in. Sevilla, Liverpool and now Spurs to name a few. We also struggled to get over the line with Brighton. Make no mistake Spurs we absolute dire last night. We gave the game away to them. Not that they played well.

There are a lot of players that need to go. The ones ETH have brought in have been good but we still need a few more signings to push on. We will limp across the line into 4th due to the early season we had. Our second half form has been average at best.

A lot of this hinges on who buys however. If the Glazers stay I don't think we will get what we need.

ngl you guys can absolutely finish 3rd this season.

Newcastle have some tricky fixtures IMO.

This 100%. We can go absolute mad in the summer if the Qatari's come in. If the Glazers stay we might get a Striker and that is it. If you want to compete with City you need two teams.

You go "mad" every single window...what changes? You've spent a fortune under ETH lol.
Leicester will probably be having a flash sale. We'll happily sell you another defender for £80m. Cags is already gone to Atletico but we can let you have Amartey.

Going mad is not the solution. Signings have to be carefully thought out now. Our first XI is currently decent and the squad isn't bad; the glaring hole is a striker and we can see where to go after that is resolved.

The worst thing that can happen is some sort of protracted transfer saga around Harry Kane.

Red something earlier criticising Arsenal for trying to do the high press against MC and getting played around, suicidal etc. Basically saying they should have adapted their tactics for playing away at MC

Whilst I agree it's a very high risk tactic, if Arsenal had completely changed their approach then the questions afterwards would be, why did they change it? Too scared, not playing their normal game, got what they deserved, etc.

At the end of the day, MC are a better team than Arsenal and my pregame prediction was that they'd score four goals and I was unsure how many Arsenal would get. I think in a low block we'd still get beaten 2-0 3-0 or whatever, and considering the fact we only had a 5pt lead versus two games in hand (plus a much harder run in than MC), I think it made sense to be aggressive, better to have a 15% chance of victory and a 50% chance of getting hammered than a 5% chance of victory and 25% chance of getting hammered, especially with the goal difference being such that it would be extremely unlikely that we'd have a better GD if it ended level on points anyway.
Arsenal had already secured CL football with the point against Saints, and had a massive lead over 3rd place, out of all cups so even the psychological impact of being thrashed would be pretty inconsequential, even if they completely collapse over the next month it basically won't change anything about the end result of the season.

Actually went to the game last as a colleague has season tickets for Spurs.
Stadium is amazing, really impressive. Much louder than the old WHL. Hospitality very good also. Onto the match...

Same old from United. In relative control for most of the first half but still lacking a degree of intensity at times and AWB was in a big tussle with Richarlison for most of the half. Both tams looked vulnerable on the right side of defence. Rashford looked ok, Sancho better but still cautious, Antony had his poorest match for a while.
Second half was two average sides struggling to find the energy to sustain any period of dominance. Kane's audition if it was such was pretty impressive. I haven't seen him in the flesh before but I was impressed. His movement is exceptional but in the first half he played in midfield. Second half he was more of a threat and without him Spurs really would be lost. I'm still not convinced he's worth the punt but I was impressed by him.

Our subs did nothing to improve us. Dalot actually had a pretty good game in either full back position. He looks solid and like he doesn't make many errors. Shaw and Lindelof looked comfortable in possession but a bit exposed on the turn. Then we come to the midfield and Casemiro. 3 months ago he was the most important player. Last night I would have considered subbing him if we had a alternative. He looks knackered and was not covering the ground , ducking tackles and ceding possession.
I also saw how important Bruno is to the leadership in the team. He is constantly coaching, moaning, directing and trying to lead by example.

A game live is different to on tv. You see more and the stadium gives a great view. It was a good experience minus the trek back to the tube in the rain. Both clubs have a long way to go to bridge the gap to the elite teams in Europe and the fans have equal disdain for the club owners.

PS I counted 9 choruses of "Yid Army" so no woke culture effecting the majority of supporters.
