Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th-28th Sep 2020]

That's Garcia and he had the big head injury vs Arsenal last season.

edit: and there's nothing wrong with that last penalty. Maddison's run in a straight line with the ball and Mendy's run across the back of him and clipped his legs. The 2nd Vardy one something needs to be done about though. All he's looking to do is run into Garcia's path and go down - he's created the contact.

With Everton and Leicester playing so well, Arsenal picking up and the performances so far of Chelsea, Spurs, Man U and City, I don’t think the top 4 is as clear cut as pundits were making out.

The law still specifies intent. It's the interpretation of intent that has changed and as I explained, it was changed to include defenders intentionally making their body a bigger target. There will be times where this is a bit of a grey area but I'm not sure how anybody can say Dier has intentionally handled the ball or intentionally put his arm in that position, attempting to gain an advantage.

Yes but if the hand ball interferes with a promising attack its also a foul / penalty. That would be the argument here I assume.

I think its far too early for any impressions to be made to be honest. Everton havent exactly had the hardest opening three fixtures. Its the usual wait 10 games for me.

No, it doesn't matter whether it stops an attack if it's accidental. It has to be classed as intentional for it to be a foul. They've tried to get rid of the grey area by giving more pens than before (when they've intentionally moved their arm away from the body), so that we're getting more consistent decisions but they've gone too far in giving this one and the one yesterday. There is no way anybody could argue that Dier intentionally handled the ball or put his arm in that position intentionally.

If they're going to keep giving these decisions then they may as well go the whole way and just give fouls any time the ball strikes an arm.

Its unclear then in my opinion as this is the line im referring to :

  • Any offence (not only a foul) which ‘interferes with or stops a promising attack’ should result in a YC

The word accidental isn't listed anywhere.

It needs clearing up and its their interests to do it ASAP tbh. They cant change any rules now so they have to run with whatever they decide with.

This season is starting off very strange. Acca’s are a bloody impossibility atm!

I am going to make a wild prediction that due to the new handball rules, the lack of crowds (less pressure from crowds so strikers are calmer in front of goals), there will not be a single 0-0 this season.

Love a pep moan when teams play on the counter and do not play his game. It's like campers in FPS's. Either find a way to beat them or play them at their game. Like Einstein once said. Doing the same thing over and over whilst expecting a different result is the definition of insane.

It is no different to last year when we did the same to City. He will never learn.

Certainly an interesting start to the season, will be interesting to see how it pans out, especially for Leicester and Everton.

Still early days of course, there's plenty of times when teams start well then diminish.
