Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [26th - 27th December 2021]

I honestly think a top four finish for Arsenal would be terrible for them. Having no European football this season has helped them no end. Europa league would be perfect for the young team to grow.
This is right up there with your comment about Ole creating a new way of playing football :D

In what world would qualifying for the CL be bad for any football club? It brings in upwards of £100m in revenue (once you factor matchday & commercial revenue into the mix), enabling Arsenal to improve their squad and close the gap on those above them. It's not as if there's any greater fixture burden on them as they're likely to end up playing more games in the Europa, at more inconvenient dates.

The longer Arsenal (and Spurs) remain outside the CL spots the further they will fall behind. We're already approaching a point where the big 6 becomes a big 4 with a financial gulf between Arsenal & Spurs and Liverpool, Utd, City & Chelsea widening every season. Had covid not happened Utd and Liverpool would have revenues of circa £600m for this season with Arsenal's sub £400m and Spurs not much more. And covid has hurt those two clubs more than anybody else as a greater proportion of their revenue comes from matchday revenue.

Arsenal need to get back into the CL, that's why their owner started spending. It's no different to the Glazers - when Utd were regularly qualifying for the CL with ease the Glazers didn't want to spend more than needed but as soon as Utd's position in the top 4 was at risk the wallet opened.
