Good game of football. I thought we controlled the game from the disallowed goal up to United's second. Then we lost our rhythm when arteta made those 3 subs. Why on earth did arteta decide to throw the kitchen sink at United with 20mins to go whilst we were still controlling the game?

Seasons gone past, we would have huffed and puffed with the ball with no end product and then get hit on the counter (like after the 3 subs). We looked a much better team and I think we've improved a lot since last season. I think this match indicates that we're much better equipped to go head to head with the so called big 6 now.

Disappointed with the result but still positive for the season ahead.

Exactly, Arsenal were the better team for 75% of the game. Take the counter attacking goals away and you would have been disappointed as a United fan with that performance, outplayed for most of the game. Arsenal just couldn't finish their dinner

Oh sure, but having a sustained counter attacking threat under pressure is no bad thing. Our squad are still finding their feet after a year of dreadful performances. Arsenal have been building for years now under Arteta.

I think Arsenal managed something like 3 shots on target? They were hardly peppering us.

I don't agree with the statement that I would have been disappointed with United's performance. The stats aren't massively in Arsenal's favour, 60/40 possession but Arsenal had less shots on target. The team did extremely well defensively, which has been a massive issue for us the last couple of seasons.

So far this season everyone has looked capable of beating everyone on the day, with one of two exceptions. At no point today did we looked good for a win, even with the goal that was ruled out. Pretty disappointing performance for me, bar a couple of moments.

No point moping though. Our two big problems last year were no goal threat from the forwards (which we look to have fixed) and that when we got beaten we’d then be rubbish for a few games after. If we can just get back to winning next week all will be forgotten, just as United fans were ready to slit their wrists after their first few games and will now be insufferably smug until their next defeat.

We were never going to get that VAR decision for our disallowed goal when the ref and var referees are all from manchester

Hopefully premier league appoint officials from north london for return fixture

*tongue in cheek*

It was a foul though to be fair
it was such a convincing foul it took var ages to decide and the ref had to take a few looks at the monitor because it was that obvious it was a foul

a month into new season the amount of decisions var has decided that are questionable this season is getting a joke already

On another day we win that game...

Don't fall into this trap, it's fine to play well and Arsenal did, but they ultimately fell well short against a team who aren't particularly great at the moment.

I do think the league is looking extremely close this year, no game is easy. Much more interesting than 90+ point finishes etc.

Did you not watch the replays? One of the angles clearly showed he was pushed by Odegaard, who also knee'd his leg. Not hard, but enough to knock you off balance. Odegaard didn't touch the ball either. Foul.

I think well short is a big exaggeration. Also, I counted at least 3 challenges by United players similar to the one on Eriksen which went unpunished. It was just a coming together where he wasn't strong enough.

I think the main problem with the refereeing is that they've been told to let the game be more physical and allow a bit more tussle, but they don't seem to have found a consistent place to draw the line.

Eriksen tackle was a foul from the replay though, wrong side, didn't play the ball, just ran into him.

Can't say I'm hugely against the principle of leaning towards letting play continue, and only reviewing if it leads to a goal.

Can't see anything else this year than City storming the league an I think they'll easy get over the 90 points. Everyone else his looks so poor.
Got to disagree, I think it will be a tight season with loads of twists and turns, world cup lay off and possible injuries etc. No way I fancy City at this stage.
