Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Aug - 1st Sept 2022]

We have too many midfielders not comfortable in possession. McTominay has too many issues in general in his game and Fernandes is still the same player he was when he arrived, taking lots of low percentage passes on but now hes not hitting many of them.

I'm hoping that Fred, Casemiro and Eriksen become our midfield trio and then we have Antony, Sancho and Martial ahead of them. Just not sure if that will be too lightweight.

Yep, I was thinking the exact same for midfield/attack.

Agree with all of that, except we are definitely in danger of going down. If things continue like this I don't think there will be 3 teams worse than us.
I don't think you're quite that bad yet but if something doesn't change, it's the direction you're heading in the next few seasons. Vardy's still not completely over the hill and a combination of him, Maddison and Barnes should win you enough games. I think Forest and Bournemouth are bankers to go down so you only need to be better than one more and I think you are.

no idea how to show up a twitter thing.

Scott McTominay’s first half by numbers vs. Leicester:
100% long balls completed
100% tackles won
82% pass accuracy
33 touches
5 final third passes
3 ground duels won
1 key pass
1 interception
1 clearance
Making a big impact.

...against a team at the bottom of the league.

This is exactly why stats are useful but don't tell the whole picture.

He rarely loses the ball in front of his defence...because he never makes himself available when there is any pressure. He doesn't do things that are going to progress the team or have the possibility of a negative outcome. He won't play a quick pass when he can run into a bit of space and pick an easier one.

Did you watch the game? He was not good despite what those stats would say. I would rather have a player that has iffy moments in the pursuit of greatness than one that doesn't even attempt it.

Everton, Aston Villa and Bournemouth are all worse than Leicester.
Leicester play Villa next Saturday - Rodgers/Gerrard could be gone after that.

Was it the death of your owner that did it? You were the poster boys for recruiting well, selling well and getting Champs League money on top.

Now your squad is falling apart?
I don't think Vichai's death is related - the recruitment model hasn't really changed a great deal, it's just that we don't have the money to throw around at the moment. Selling Fofana and bringing in a cheaper alternative for example is in keeping with our previous dealings. We still have a decent squad of players, but it seems like we're not really playing with any purpose at the moment, and lacking a lot of confidence. The manager has to take some responsibility for that.

Wish I shared your confidence!

Stats are funny though. For eg the 3 ground duels won and 100% tackles stat. He won 5 ground duels out of 12 in 90 mins which is about right for McTominay as he's just below 50% average per game.

He just doesnt seem to have a strong area of his game tbh.

Martinez however:

Aerial duels (won) 2 (0)

What were his second half stats? :p

He's right to be fair but yea he's done a Parker here.
His comments come across as though he's trying to get sacked. This transfer window has been poor, but the two 5th place finishes were followed with significant spending and the team has got worse. He has to shoulder some responsibility for that.

Roger’s won’t get the sack. His comments were very tame imo and who would they replace him with. Their squad is quite lacking. They will start to put some points on the board soon.

Rodgers needs to be sacked, his comments come across as deflection from his poor tactics and decisions, which have cost us. There is no confidence in the team, no one is performing, that is down to the manager and staff.

We need a new manager sooner than later. I don't want to see big Sam turning up in Jan. :(
