Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3rd - 8th February 2023]

It’s all about intent though, if you chin a player on the pitch your going to get more than a 3 match ban, it should be the same if you have both hands round a player’s throat
But he didn't...

If he was choking the player, why were they walking off smiling and hugging 5 seconds later? That is not what happens when someone chokes you.

I don’t know what others are seeing but he is not grabbing his shirt. He may not be grabbing the player round the throat but he certainly has his hand on his throat.

Watch the actual clip https://i.redd.it/6o2bzftk59ga1.gif Are you seriously claiming he isn't holding his shirt?
Sometimes it’s hard to tell as when you grab someone like he has, your hands can grip the shirt collar at the same time and make it look like he’s just holding his shirt.

Whatever he was doing, he was silly to put his hands there. He could have just grabbed and held him by his shoulders, he wouldn’t have got anything for that.

He’s got his hands up around where his neck is as rob said he could have pushed his chest, shoulders all manner of other places

As soon as you raise your hands to someones throat/face your asking for it

Fact is if that is a red card there is 2/3 everytime there is a brawl and that doesn't happen. The fact he was punished and nobody else was (hell the guy who literally shoulder charged a player off the pitch didn't even get a red!) shows the ridiculous inconsistency.

Are you blind?

No you are blind and deluded. He was grabbing his shirt. Jesus Christ how blind are some people!

Saying that what he did was stupid and more than likely deserved the card but everyone else around him was far worse in some case. How Jordan Eyew stayed on the pitch is a mystery. Fred should have got a card as well.

I’ll agree with you if it gets overturned, otherwise, correct decision

We have just seen the ridiculous inconsistency in the last week, Bruno rightly got a Red Card for his tackle against Southampton but VAR selectively missed the straight Reds for both Fabinho and Anthony one 2 days earlier and the other the next day.

What did tickle me was the way Anthony rolled around on the floor and then jumped up and went for Schlupp as soon as his teammates arrived. Fanny! :D

Ah, so Casemiro was the one who started all the pushing was he. Well that casts a new light on things.

I think that referees lean on VAR too much. I think they should be looking at decisions but they shouldn't be led by the VAR panel so much. They should be going to the monitor if they need to with an open mind rather than thinking "VAR have told me to make this decision".

Like we've said before the ref going to the monitor is just a bit of theatre for the stadium fans to make it look like the ref is making the call and not being undermined by VAR.

As we don't hear the comms between the VAR and ref we've got no idea what is being said, probably part of the reason they don't want us to hear it either.

Which is dumb, they never admit they're wrong. Why did the player who grabbed Fred by his face/throat not get a red card? Defend that please.
I'd agree with you, but the clip shows United number 6 (I think) pushing Ayew into Fred, there's no grabbing he just gets shoved from the side/behind.
