Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5th - 10th March 2021]

I'm getting quite disillusioned by our season. It's so predictable each game, miss some early chances then concede to stupid mistakes. We have conceded the joint most penalties this season and let in 14 goals from corners, that's 24 goals together. Really quite terrible defensively. All very well for entertainment purposes but ultimately we are starting to be a joke for how weak we are.

Nearly conceded 15th set piece goal.

The Bielsa myth. Can't and won't adapt the style even when the players that are good in the system aren't available. If Klopp does this he's a clown. One's won loads the other has won the same amount as me. Yeah before anyone pedals it out other managers say he's been influential etc etc. Still won **** all.

Luke shaw best LB in the league atm?

Fat Shaw isn't even half as good as Everton's Digne.

I don't know why you are? For a team to come up from the championship and play decent football whilst still getting top half is great. Ignore teams like Sheffield United who have "decent" seasons. It's all turgid horrible defend park the bus stuff. What you have with Bielsa is special. He just needs the players to make it work for him.

Well yeah, of course fans of big clubs love Leeds playing this way, the majority of the time it plays into their hands. Especially as the season wears on and they get tired and injuries. The big club doesn't have to adapt to break them down. If they don't go down this year with Bielsa I wouldn't be surprised if it's next year. Luckily for them two of the other teams at the bottom are utter gash.

@IronSpider who do you support out of interest?

I'm not sure Bielsa needed to change his style of play for West Ham, we played well, just silly mistakes and players not stepping up.

I like the fact you compare Klopps multimillion, premier league champion squad to our championship esq team. Great comparison

Exactly it is worse that Bielsa doesn't change when he has fewer players to keep playing his system. Klopp at least should have more of his signings for his system of playing. Bielsa though plays the same way despite the smaller pool of quality and the team looking frankly knackered. Bielsa isn't adapting and it's becoming worse as the season wears on. Sure it's entertaining to watch but and if the fans are happy playing the same way week in week out while getting relegated, well then fair play.

The reason we aren’t progressing isn’t about play style, it’s about injuries and lack of depth in the team. We’ve played the majority of the season with 1 fit center back, we have Tyler Roberts playing who is a Championship player, etc etc. Our four main signings haven’t played one minute on the pitch together.
We don’t look tired at all, look at the second half yesterday.

Gulp. City, Liverpool and Man U, Brighton and Spurs. I think I fear the Brighton game the most :(

If we don't take at least a couple of wins from the games against Fulham, Sheff Utd, Brighton, Burnley, Southamption and West Brom quite simply we don't deserve to stay up.

Anything from the other teams should be counted as 'bonus' points. As long as don't fully 'do a Leeds' we'll be alright. ;)

Odd lineup from Southampton to face City, though it definitely looks to be designed for a "whatever you do, don't concede 9 goals" result.

McCarthy back in goal, maybe expecting to concede a few and doesn't want to knock Forster's confidence?

4 CBs (one of whom will no doubt be playing LB) and a RB, to give 5 at the back, which has always worked fantastically well for us :o

Not much in the way of defensive or holding midfielders, which is also a worry. JWP, Djenepo, Redmond and Armstrong are all fairly attacking midfield options.

Adams pretty much the default strike option with Ings out and the only other alternative being N'Lundulu

Even when we get a ref/VAR combo that seem to want to be our 12th and 13th men, we still find a way to throw it away ourselves

If there's one thing VAR is good at, it's coming up with excuses for weird decisions.

"The on-field referee felt that Alex McCarthy got a slight touch on the ball, and VAR couldn't see anything to disprove that."
