Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [7th - 13th May 2021]

Unless my maths is bad the only scenario where Liverpool couldn't finish top 4 after winning the last 3 games would be if Chelsea won both the last 2 games and Leicester beat Spurs by enough to overturn whatever goal difference Liverpool have accrued winning the 3 games.
Exactly. Even if Liverpool only won their final 3 games by a single goal and Leicester only lost to Chelsea by a single goal then Leicester would need to beat Spurs by 3 goals - realistically, in that scenario where we win our last 3 and Leicester lose to Chelsea, the goal difference swing will likely be bigger.

It will all be meaningless when we concede a 88th minute equaliser vs Burnley next midweek though.

Oh, I missed that at the final whistle where Mane didnt shake hands with Klopp, that was an interesting replay to see, will have to rewind that and watch it again and see if Mane was actually aware of Klopp holding his hand out. Certainly when you watch the replay Klopp didnt seem impressed by it

Keane holding no punches about Fernandes' theatrics.

Think the pundits are going a bit overboard, we've played well against open teams all season. I expect us to struggle far more against West Brom and Burnley who will defend deeper and in numbers. Spank them and I'll change my mind but I wouldn't be surprised to see us drop more points.
Agree with this. Ridiculously I expected us to win this. The acid test is whether we can break Burnley down.

Also, if we ever play Fabinho at centre back again in a competitive match I'm done with the club. The man is our most important player.

he definitely knew Klopp was there

Might come down to goal difference at this rate.
It could but realistically if it goes to goal difference Liverpool's should be higher.

Win 3 and in.

It's funny, the Chelsea - Leicester prem league game is now bigger than the FA cup final. Would they consider resting players for the prem fixture 4 days later? Champions league spots a bigger reward surely?

So many big games. I suppose the advantage is to Chelsea with the bigger squad but they have far more to play for or lose What's an FA cup to them?

It's very difficult for it to go down to GD and Leicester to qualify. As above, even if Liverpool only won their games by a single goal and you only lost to Chelsea by a single goal, you'd then need to beat Spurs by 3. That would be hard enough, let alone if the other scorelines were won/lost by bigger margins. Realistically you're going to need to beat Chelsea or hope we **** up one of our last 3, both things are very possible.

Be happy with a draw, however if we don't beat Chelsea, they still have a hard game away at Villa, especially with Grealish back and wanting to be on the plane for the Euro's.

I don't see Spurs as a challenge, I am expecting (hoping) Kane and the other international's to be getting ready for the Euro's, while the rest of the 1st team are already on the beach.

Chelsea also could win champs league

of course but you wouldn't want to put all of your eggs in that basket. Ultimately the CL final will dictate how successful their season has been. Win it and everything else is forgotten (If they lost the FA cup/ finish 5th) but if they were to lose I'm sure their fans would rather they were back in it for the next season to try again. An FA cup win would be pretty small consolation imo.

What say you Chelsea/ Leicester supporters? What are the priorities for you?

At the start of the season, gaining CL would be a must, after what happened last season.

Winning the FA Cup for the first time would be brilliant, if that means we end up finishing 5th, it wouldn't be the worst result in the world. Obviously finishing 3rd or 4th and winning the cup would be even more amazing. :p

Chelsea might end up regretting that Arsenal game. Liverpool should get top 4 now and Manu fans only have themselves to blame for it :D Got to be Chelsea that misses out now I feel.

Someone doesn't understand how we work this season. Beating United means we've already lost against Burnley

We have big enough issues of our own to be worrying about without thinking about whether Liverpool get into the CL. If they get in, they will have deserved it. Considering how awful Liverpools season has been and how many injuries they have had they could still finish within a point of us. Considering how people have been fawning over how well Ole has done, we could still end the season without a trophy and going into next season without any real signs of progress under Ole.

We have had injuries ourselves do not forget that. Yes we lost yesterday and the Leicester game was basically a by as we played a second string team (which just goes to show our squad depth isn't up to it). Football is full of tight margins and if we had been more clinical like the chance Greenwood had to make it 3-3 it might of been a different result. To have 13 Shots and 54% possession against Liverpool is a marked improvement compared to say 18 months ago. People have short memories but there were certain parts where we dominated the game albeit brief 10-15 minute spells. 18 months ago we were in our own 18 yard box hoping for a cheap counter attack goal.

We were far better once Fred was hooked and Greenwood come on.

Yes Liverpool have injuries but so did we in Martial and Maguire plus we have had many injuries through out the season with a lot of our key players being out for periods of time.

If we lose Europa League final then it will become worrying but if anyone had told me we would get 10 more points than last season, finish second and win a European Trophy I would have bit their hand off.

We are obviously still short in a couple of positions but depending on summer will be more detrimental to our future rather than Ole still being the manager. It is pretty obvious we lack that Kante, Fernandhino, Fabhino type player. Fred has been a great servant and makes an excellent squad player but he shouldn't be starting.
