Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 16th December 2024]

Just watched Pep after match conference. As happy I am, City going through this patch and Utd winning today, I do feel sorry for him for some god forsaken reason. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe the like a poster posted a bit ago in thsi thread said, he and his team have won it all, many times, what else can they do to get that drive back to win more. I hope he is ok. He seems stressed.

There's a line isn't there. And always teetering on the edge between genius and losing it.

Whilst it's not nice to see someone struggling I don't feel sorry for him at all.

Just catching up on MOTD. What is the point of VAR now, so many blatant things escape punishment these days. Fleeting pulls, over the ball tackles with not enough impact, dives etc. Its like they've decided to get involved in as little as possible.

Aside from the euphoria of a win against City, I am left wondering what has gone wrong for them. That run of results is unprecedented. Is it all really down to one player missing? I do remember Cantona and Keane having that type of impact in past United teams, where a long absence cost us the league. I suspect Guardiola hasn't had to deal with this sort of run in his career so perhaps that explains why he looks a bit broken.

Post match press conference and as usual 70% of the questions are about Rashford and Garnacho. Tbf Amorim handled it well. He's a class act and I'm totally behind the stand he has taken. It's about time we got back to players understanding that they aren't in charge. Looking forward to the Spurs game now to see if we can at least put out another battling performance.

Yeh it really is an odd one at City.

Couple of big injuries and players coming to the end of their best and that, I get that.

But we are talking about a team that won the league and were a whisper away of beating Madrid in the Champions League last season (and would have gone on to win it) together with the previous dominace in England.

I'm trying to draw parallels and can't really find any, not to this extent at least.

The players are not playing like their lives depend on it, the team has gone from knowing where each other will be in their sleep, to sometimes looking at each other confused.

Good point re Pep not being in this situation before, I suspect the players feed of this as well in some respects.

I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what they’ve decided. To back their refs on field as much as possible. It’s like they said, “do you know what the problem is, referees aren’t given enough agency” when the reality is that refs need to get better and VAR needs to get a lot better. They need to change the way refs and VAR interact.

True. Thats whats got me thinking. A lot of press about Mens mental health over the last year or so, this is no different. Ok, its football and hes got money to quit and live a fantastic stress free life with his wife and kids (I assume hes got both?!), but I compare to a millionaire, suddenly losing everyting and going broke. No job, no house, wife and kids leaving you. Everyone laughing at you. What you going to do?

Probably me looking into it too much but he looks defeated, (not just football), I just hope hes ok. Imagine having all that success, then BANG, nothing. It could destroy a man.
