Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [18th - 20th January 2025]

Great position and all but we required the man who has no concept of pressure but also composure to bail us out today to avoid 3 wins out of 8

Had we beat forest or Manu I’d say it’s pretty close to done but we’re clearly feeling pressure

No idea what happened arsenal, went to sort something out after the second and they looked great after the first
Personally think Nunez is an utter enigma. That said he's a number nine or conventional Centre Forward. As the old saying goes a broken clock is right twice a day. So Liverpool benefiting from at least somebody who knows how to play the position, no matter how inconsistent..

Arsenal..................What to say. Genuinely think they are now getting found out. You cannot rely on set pieces to win you a title.

We have to start thinking now about where we’re going with Arteta. He's done an amazing job to get us back towards title challengers, but it feels like we’ve hit a plateau and can’t get over the final few hurdles. It was such a great chance to win the league this year, probably the best with City’s form, and as good as Liverpool are, they’re not exactly pulling up trees lately. It’s very frustrating

Some of it is luck. Last season it appeared Arsenal didn't have many injuries to key players but this season from what I've observed you've been hit with outages to key players. Odegaard near the start when I seem to recall you dropped points and now Saka. Having said that Arteta seems be stubborn around the issue of recruiting a striker and most observers have been crying for that for 2 seasons at least. It's the 8 draws that have done for Arsenal. January is too early to give up but it looks hard to overhaul Liverpool now.

We're a long way from being found out, we simply dont have the bodies for the style of football we want to play. A combo of injuries and poor squad planning have made this a difficult season. The players that are fit and trusted to play are having to give 150% every game and thats not sustainable. Feels like we're simply seeing the opposite of last season where we were full of energy and had virtually no injuries.

Hilarious that people are conceding the title to Liverpool with a 6 point gap. As good as they've been, they're not exactly going on City level runs of winning. They're catchable, we just need some of the margins to swing our way. The fact the gap hasn't grown should be hope enough.

The best chance was when you had 50 points by the mid point!!!!

I don't think Arteta is done as your midfield and defence is the best out there but your forward line is the worst out of Liverpool and City.

If you can find that magic forward I think you will do well.

9 points if they win their game in hand, which is likely. Thats a huge gap at this point, especially as we still won’t have Saka for a long time and still have to go to Anfield

lol draw a couple of games and all of a sudden its "liverpool havent been pulling up trees. We have been absolutely flying bar a few games and havent been arguably the best team in Europe by a margin.

Calm down Omnom, you are nowhere near the winning machine City teams have been the last few years. You couldn’t even beat Forest or Utd

I mean during this huge 'blip' we're still on course for 91 points which matches/betters what City got the two times they've beat you in past two years lol

6 wins out of 6 in the champions league and 6 points clear with a game in hand on 2nd...

What exactly is pulling up trees then? 105 point season?

Except city arent weak in any area

Wouldn't say liverpool are either

I wouldn't agree with that (Liverpool not being weak in any area), both full backs are questionable. There's been a fair few Liverpool fans who are happy to cash in on TAA, and the feeling Robertson is past his best.

What's helping Liverpool is their front three have found form at the same time. Diaz has 8 goals in the league already, matching his total for the whole of the PL season last year. Gakpo seems to finding the net and obviously Salah doesn't need an explanation.

I think Slot will be the 5th manager to win the EPL title in his first season in charge.

Eze/nico williams and izak/watkins/sesko and it would be a diff story
Isn't Williams on 300k p.w or something daft, then you got to cough up his release clause in one lump sum (unless you do a man utd and pay more so you csn spread it out).

You've got no chance of Isak or Sesko

Dont think williams will be a problem his release is only about 50 arteta wanted him for a long time
