Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 3rd September 2023]

Don't know what Onana was meant to do about either of them. Close range deflection and a quality bit of play by Jesus after Dalot went sliding half way back to Manchester.

Just so frail at the back....positives though we were inches from having won it at 88 minutes!

Good game of footie anyway

Why are some people intent on focusing on Onana (positive and negative), it's very odd.
My guess is what I now call Nunez Syndrome. People are stirred up by the likes of Mark Goldbridge, Neville and Micah Richards who have all said Onana is one of the best (THE best in the case of Goldbridge) in the league, putting him right up there with the likes of Ederson and Allison. So, like the Nunez , Haaland hype, it makes people then focus on that player and everything they do (or dont do)

Just look imposing, tighten the angle...do something. He never dives and just sits down

I think you're quite right. Onana has been fine, and he's clearly confident on the ball. Most of the goals he's conceded wouldn't have been saved by any keeper.

Seems fine to me. We have far bigger problems with the squad...

I dpn't get it. He can hardly be blamed for any of the goals.
Fair play to Rice he controlled and hit a great shot albeit deflected. 2-1 would have been a fairer reflection but you have to play a full 105 minutes not just 90. However, it says it all about United that we ended up with Maguire and Evans on the pitch. For United, it's another away defeat and you have to say that we've played better but still look a bit soft at times. Fair play to Arsenal who weren't at their best but kept playing for the win.

Best in the league

Sort of review you’d expect from a team at the bottom of the the league! Are the expectations that bad nowadays?

We are a shambles of a club off the field and our defense is a injured mess. Arsenal were title challengers last season.

The game could have gone either way tbh. Jesus goal was a goal of a team chasing all or nothing so doesn't reflect really. Rices goal was a deflection. If Garnacho had been a couple of cm's the other way it could have been Man Utd's points. I am happy with the performance in that case.

I was expecting nothing from this game today because I was looking at last season's Arsenal.

Probably because he was hyped up as being world class by man u fans and "pundits" when he looks exactly like he did for inter, bang average if not a little worse. Reminds me of Karius when he came in to Liverpool's side. All his flaws were overlooked, and it took a fair while before the majority admitted he was ****.

Hardly anyone said that

Unless you count social media influencers as "everyone" - as many people seem to these days.

They all just focus on him being decent at passing the ball and forgot he actually has to use his hands. Still can't get over how funny he was for Forest's first last week, one v one and he never left the 6 yard box to close the player down and then just tripped himself up trying to save it, looked like a outfield player playing in goal....... hang on....................

Ok, and so far he's not really done a lot wrong, people are just relentlessly focused on his every move.

He's better than De Gea, especially on the ball. His other stats are fairly similar.
