I have no doubt ETH is suggesting names because the rest of our structure does nothing but wait for agents to come to them (hence Casemiro) But suggesting ETH was the driving force behind paying 80m on him is absolutely nuts, it was clearly a last minute panic just like Casemiro. if it was ETH's call it would have happened far, far earlier in the summer.
Involved is not the same as being responsible is it. Recruitment is the responsibility of the DoF at well over 95% of top division clubs. ETH suggests players that he thinks can play our style and our recruitment team is meant to suggest alternatives. The problem is they don't do the second part so we're entirely reliant on who ETH knows. No other manager is having to be lead scout in addition to head coach.I mean they are heavily involved in the process at a lot of clubs yes.

Given that the vast majority of your signings have either directly played under him or from the Dutch League it's fairly clear that he's lead your recruitment and I'm genuinely amazed that you're objecting to this. It's been a running joke, even amongst Utd fans, for over a year now. Will the manager personally be negotiating the deal? No (although there's all sorts of stories about his agent being involved in a lot of Utd deals) but the money men at the club are negotiating fees for players that he's choosing.
