What is it actually awarded for though? If it’s for the best player in the world as in the actual best player. Messi would have won it every year since 2008. So it’s clearly not that.
Is it for the best player on the team(s) that wins the most or biggest competitions? Ribery, Iniesta, Lewa etc would have won it. So it’s not that.
Is it the most successful player in terms of trophies - Jorginho finished 3rd one year when he won the CL and Euros. So it’s kind of hinting towards that but Alvarez won the lot last year.
Is it a factor of all them? Who knows really.
There’s also the thing of if Muani doesn’t blast the ball at Martinez France win the World Cup Mbappe likely wins it and Martinez doesn’t win best goal keeper. I don’t think anyone thinks he’s the best keeper. He was brilliant in the World Cup though.
