Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [27th - 29th October 2023]

Amrabat off for Mount at half time what was that about can anyone explain?

I mean we probably would have lost anyway but at least we looked still in the fight first half.

I've just seen ETH's comments about not being able to implement the style of football he used at Ajax

Sounds like the words from a guy who know he getting the sack.

There's a world of difference between not having a DoF (your original claim), having an structure in place that isnt succesful, and having a successful structure.

Please quote where I said that. I even included a DoF in the imaginary conversation and said the DoF wasn't doing their job.

We have no football structure. No football club in the world works where the manager is manager, DoF and scout in one.

We have signed a couple of ETH's first choices, but most of our signings haven't been. The crucial part though is every single one of our signings has either been a suggestion from ETH or someone that has clearly been offered by agents. The DoF and scouting system have done absolutely nothing.
One of the stipulations for ten hag taking the job was he would have final say on transfers wasnt it, if your imaginary scenario happened and we had manager that nodded his head like a good little dog when it wasnt want he wanted I'd have massive reservations about if he was the right man for the job, especially when his fdj alternative and no 1 summer target was Mason Mount..

So I didn't say we had no DoF as you claimed (even says that we do in the bit you quoted which is hilarious)

Again final say is not the same as should be entirely in charge of. Managers should get final refusal (and do at most clubs except maybe PSG) but the structure should be there to support them and it clearly isn't.

The implication is that you seem to believe your manager is the dof because the one you do have in place is poor. And plenty of other man utd supporters seem to believe you dont have one.

John Murtough is the Football Director and Darren Fletcher is the Technical Director.

I think they work together quite a bit. Whatever they are doing, they are not doing it well.

Nobody is clear on exactly how the structure works, just that it doesn't work.

...you said I claimed we didn't have a DoF. I said no such thing. Just admit you didn't bother to read the posts. It's quite clear that ETH is currently doing most of the job of a DoF right now.

To be honest when someone starts blathering on about made up scenarios i tend to ignore that element of a post as its irrelevant.

Ok then if your attention span is that small then just don't bother responding and let others talk :)
Imaginary scenarios from your head aren't remotely relevant to a discussion, but given some of your more bizarre takes on man utd players and what happens in matches it does explain a lot.

Right but he's clearly not doing anything. What signings have we made that didn't come from ETH? The only ones really are Casemiro and Hojlund (excluding loans, although even one of those was clearly from ETH)
Every window we're scrabbling to try and put a team together purely from the players that ETH knows and players that are offered to us. What other team operates like this? Backing a manager isn't giving them whatever they ask for (not that we've done that either) It's giving them the tools they need to do their job. We've failed every single manager at that. This isn't to say the managers are free of blame, ETH has not been good enough and seems ridiculously stubborn on certain things that aren't working (like Bruno RW) but if we don't fix our structure, no manager can ever succeed here. That is why I'm not ETH out yet, because as bad as things are, a new manager can't fix it. Until the Glazers are gone and someone actually fixes the structure above the manager it is impossible to succeed. Klopp and Pep could not succeed at our club, Pep even said so post match that he relies on the structure around him.

ETH was working with an agent to just bring players in last summer which is just a joke really.

End of the day, ETH isn’t getting any help what so ever. His signings which have cost a lot are shocking and should warrant major questions being asked. Sure all managers get the odd transfer wrong or recruit the wrong player but he’s went balls deep on Onana, Anthony and Mount.

Well it's far too early to judge Onana and Mount. They've played a handful of games (and last few games Onana has been great). But yeah Antony has clearly not improved at all unfortunately. If we'd signed him for the original price that was rumoured we probably could have made a fair bit back and moved on but unfortunately we waited until the end of the window and paid 20/30m more so now it's going to be tough to make much back.

Messi winning feels a bit off. Yes, I know he won the world cup, but aside from that, he's not really been the player he once was. Haaland, meanwhile, had an absolutely ridiculous season in arguably the hardest league in the world, won the treble, broke virtually every scoring record for a single season we had, and just blew everyone away. Feels wrong that he's not going to win it
