Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th Dec - 1st Jan 2025]

Sky even trying to sell Isak while interviewing him. Thankfully he's way too level headed to react.

What a sad dirty mackem freak David Jones is.

You have to give Amorin a fair chance as he has some poor players at his disposal but that first half performance was terrible, they were lucky not to be 4 down at the break. No idea what kind of opposition scouting he’s been doing thinking he could put Ericsen and Casemiro in the middle of that midfield, they were instantly better when Mainoo came on. You can blame the players all you want but the team selection is on him.

Wow, admitting they are in a relegation battle. What an amazing appointment he's been :)

Manchester United lost six games in all competitions in December, only the third month in their history which they have lost that many. They also conceded 18 goals in December, their most in a month since March 1964 (also 18).

Since Amorim's first game in charge on November 24, only Southampton (7) have lost more games in all competitions among Premier League clubs than United.

United will end New Year's Eve in 14th place in the Premier League, their lowest position at the turn of a year in the league since 1989, when they ended that year in 15th, eventually finishing 13th.

United have lost three consecutive home league games for the first time since February 1979, while they have lost three consecutive Premier League games within the same season for the first time since December 2015 under Louis van Gaal.

I absolutely back Amorim, clearly the players are the primary issue here, and INEOS in the background are not helping. They've gone out and appointed a manager who has a very specific style, and has said from the outset that he won't change, which is fair enough. I'd say he's probably the most promising young manager out there - and still is - but the players are already poor in their favoured roles, and simply hopeless in this new system.

Everyone can see the squad needs a major overhaul and isn't good enough - but the level of pressure here is almost unprecedented - results can be up and down, but there must be some positives somewhere. Fans everywhere are going crazy either with glee or despair, relegation is highly unlikely but people are talking as though we're already in the bottom 3.

Amorim probably had the right idea wanting to join at the end of the season, and RvN would have been a suitable caretaker for that period. Ultimately though the results would probably have still been pretty bad.

My only concern today is that it's obvious to most people that a midfield of Casemiro-Eriksen-Zirkzee was going to get torn apart against the majority of midfields, especially Newcastle's. Why did he think this would work? I know there are injuries and suspensions which doesn't help.

Fans may not like it but there will need to be a bleak period where this squad is overhauled, scrambling to find a bit of form just to finish 8th instead of 12th is pretty irrelevant right now. Long term needs to be the focus, but some fans are already wavering. Arsenal had 2 seasons finishing 8th under Arteta, if that was Man Utd he would have probably been sacked.

Our next two games are Liverpool and Arsenal, both away, which isn't ideal. The Southampton home game after these is going to be absolutely huge, lose that and the pressure might just boil over...

A penny for Sir Jim's thoughts.

Fair play to Howe. He was facing down the barrel of the gun. Team looking stale and out of ideas. Players not motivated and no new players to the first team in two windows.

What you seen last night is a top coach tweaking things and motivating players. Didn’t need a “Rebuild” he found the answers within the squad he had.

We’ve gone from facing the most shots and couldn’t score in a brothal to 13 goals unanswered in 4 in the league.

It’s amusing that as soon as Botman looks to be on the verge of coming back Burn is in the form of his life.

Last night was the blueprint for away games from now on. We controlled larges parts of the game. Could easily have been up 4 nil before they even had a chance.

Go to these **** teams away from home and just put them to the sword. There was only one United last night and that’s the originals!!

It’s amusing. Manu built the so called dream team back room staff and it’s looks like everyone one ready to jump ship already.

It’s a called the Mike Ashley effect. Tearing the club bare from top to bottom on and off the pitch and expecting it not to have a nagitive impact. All toon fans have seen this before and it doesn’t end well.

Your form is relegation with zero signs of it changing that’s why it’s being spoken about.

It is a reality. We have 22 points and just have a pander at our remaining fixtures. Home to Southampton and Ipswich are massive games. At the moment I cannot see us winning anything else in the next eleven games.

I am really struggling to see where we get 40 points from to stay up.
