Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th Nov - 1st Dec 2024]

Newcastle fans will be able to tell you that lead at this stage isn't impossible to catch. They lost a 12 point lead in 95/96 season to Manchester United.
That United team were capable of making up the distance. I don't see any team making up that distance this season. Odd to write off City given their recent history but it would be bonkers if they did. Coupled with the fact I don't see Liverpool dropping many points either (fingers crossed all the same however!).

I hope he doesn't bother with the 2 domestic cups coming up in the next 4/5 weeks, just play the kids in both. There's a league and a CL up for grabs

..obvs not impossible but Liverpool out in front is a bit different to Newcastle who'd never won anything and totally bottled it. Hard to see anyone catching them atm. But you never know, Liverpool have a wobble in Jan and lose a couple of games and draw a couple and everyone else wins around them, it could make the run in exciting

Arsenal also bottled a 50 point tally at the halfway point which is very recent. Saying that Liverpool are not a London team and I cannot see them dropping that amount of points.

City are not the same team they once were. Debruyne, Walker and Gundogan are all old. Mahrez is also a massive miss for them.

All joking aside, Pep is kind of being found out a little here. He has always had a side that is the best in the league and usually with ample backup for most positions so when they do have injuries their quality drop off is minimal. Suddenly he hasn't got quite the same quality in the side and his backup is questionable in places and City are looking average at best.

there team was hardly bad out there today, being made out like they played team full of under 18s

Pep could have used de Bruin’s or grealish earlier he didn’t

Maybe a bit of complacency has set in. De Bruyne was arguably the best attacking midfielder in Europe but he's aged quite rapidly and been injury prone. Gundogan was a beast for a season before he left and now he's 34 and looking short on legs. Bernardo is also 30 now and lacks physicality. Foden is out of form, Grealish second choice and they sold Palmer to a rival. Walker now has lost a yard, another 34yo. He's let the squad get old and this league is unforgiving in it's intensity. I actually thought Ake did ok today having not really rated him before now but for sure they really miss the screening midfielder and the leadership he brings. United have them in two weeks and for once I'm not fearing a hiding.

I don't think most sensible people are saying that. Their teams over the past 5-6 years though have been silly. Bringing on 3-4 subs who would easily be one of the first names on almost any team in the leagues first XI. Theres nothing wrong with Citys current team but to play the way Pep wants, they don't have the players or quality and he doesn't want to change how they play.

6 defeats and a draw in his last 7 games. Thats awful.

Surprised grealish not been fielded. If I was him I'd be looking to leave in the summer.

My head tells me Liverpool in the form they’re in and playing how they are would have done over City anyway. Slot has them playing some lovely stuff. My heart says they were lucky and city should have pumped them :p

Imagine how many titles Liverpool could have won without Klopp holding them back. Fair play they win the title this year and Arsenal have to be asking questions of their own about Arteta.

Cities rebuild will be interesting. Will they go against the grain and buy up ready made superstars like they did with Haaland or find players to take to the next step.

Is this a joke? Klopp doing what now?!

The only thing you can say about Klopp is that the guy had rotten luck. Any other era pretty much and he would have dominated the league for years. His trophy haul vs what he actually achieved is shocking.

Klopp won the title and would have won even more had he not been up against a team built on the back of dubious FFP.

Klopp was established as well. Slot everyone is still figuring him out. A bit like Ange at Spurs last season. Was like a steamroller until teams figured out how to play against him.

Slot has taken over a well oiled machine. Bought basically no one and had a very good pre season because of it.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out next season and if he can replicate it without Salah if he goes.

I don't think Fergie would have won in 12/13 without the RVP purple season and I see similarities with Salah this season.
