Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Jan - 1st Feb 2024]

Great performance that, really hard to pick a man of the match. Schar obviously with the two goals, Gordon worked hard and I feel has won the game for us but I think Bruno just edges it for me. Very tidy game and kept his head for a change as he sits one booking away from a two game ban and was kicked pillar to post by villa tonight. Top class.

Great to have Murphy back. He was hitting superb form before he dislocated his shoulder.

Hopefully Isak isn’t bad with Barnes due back soon we could actually start rotating the front line instead of running them into the ground.

Schar the OG beautiful ******* MOM

I much prefer it when we smash teams instead of going for 1-nils :D

Where the **** has that team been all season, what a result against what was the best home team in the league, so happy to eat my words about the result
Bruno in the past two games has been a lot more disciplined at 6 and it’s shows. The defensive unit looks more secure.

Trips was superb

Thought Burn was fantastic also until Bailey sent him to the shop for a pint of milk!!! Word is he’s still running!!

Tough game to watch last night. All credit to Newcastle who where excellent for pretty much the full 90, but we've had that result coming since the Arsenal game.

I think the better, more clinical sides have us completely sussed out now. The man marking was excuisite last night and as a result we couldn't seem to take the sting out of the game at all. It shows how important Pau Torres is to the chemistry of the team and we've missed him so much since his injury, all the clinical midfield plays started with him really and his mad charges from the back where needed more then ever last night.

I'm loathed to be too negative because this is the Villa I've wanted for the last 20 years. Were not scared of anyone anymore. But we need to stop fannying about with it in the final third looking for easy tap ins and start testing keepers. Thst Diaby chance will haunt me for the rest of the week. It's that lack of confidence one on one thats going to loose us games going forward.

I have to say that Newcastle played some good football last night.

They came out in the first half like a team posessed.

Was a very impressive performance on an away day on Tuesday night (not at Stoke).

Have to give them credit.

There isn’t a better English left winger than Gordon. Sad to see how hated he is.
I agree in terms of quality, but in the past he's come across as a complete **** so it's not a huge surprise.

That said, I think that in the last year he seems to have calmed down and grown into himself a bit. I no longer dislike him anywhere near as much as I did.

Should definitely be in the England squad and arguably the starting line up.

I’ll give howe his dues last night. I normally slate his game management and subs but changing to the 5 back line to get tino on bailey killed off a lot of the momentum villa were bringing after their subs.

Yeah, that’s the first time he’s reacted to a situation before it’s too late, as Bailey was torturing burn when he came on.

It's the only way to get an edge in us these days. You have to come out swinging, especially at VP. If we get hold of the game there you're never really getting it back.

It's was the quietest I've heard the stadium for a really long time last night.

Like I said earlier a straight drubbing has been coming since the Arsenal win. We where never going to be able to sustain that sort of momentum whilst implementing a rigid playing style that most top teams will have figured out by now. We don't have the depth to change things up when the high line/out from the back style isn't working.

I've no doubt we'll bounce back though and I still feel a CL spot is completely doable. Not sure I'd want it without big business being done in the summer though.

There were some reports that Nicolas Jackson was going to fly straight back from Afcon and could have been involved for Chelsea tonight. Sadly despite Chelsea putting everything in place for him, he missed the flight.
