Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3rd - 6th May 2024]

The thing is, that United line up has been decimated at centre back but is otherwise still a team of players who have been bought at vast cost, or vaunted as a "generational" talent
Yeh injuries have been bad but i don't get why he hasn't reached into the youth team, playing 2 at CB who have as much pace as me against these was never a good idea. Why didn't we strengthen at xmas? Even with Licha back we're short.
I've been spoilt growing up in the 90's but when i look at people like AWB / Dalot, Erickson/ Mount type of people they wouldn't have got game time back then, just not quality enough. I do think we're stuck with some due to the amount we pay them, mount for example wasn't great chelsea we are no doubt paying him loads and will struggle to recoup

Why doesn't Amad play more? He's looked exceptional every time I see him
He really hasn't but he does deserve a bit more game time. However, you don't bring any young player on in a game like this
I'd say ETH has to go but really 90% of the squad needs to go or it'll be same **** different manager.
It's pretty hard to have the sort of clear out that is required. Realistically it will take 2/3 windows to get them all gone and replaced. Personally I've been ten Hag out for a weeks now but I think God would struggle to make United competitive at the upper end of the table.

Thing is we have been rebuilding for a long time, the odd change just doesn't seem to be working. I'd sell / release as many as i could, see what funds we can spend and spend wisely. Made harder each year we are further down the table as less likely to attrack players.

Injuries have clearly been an issue, but the manager is also a failure here. Everyone just talks about injuries and a lack of quality - both fair points - ignoring the fact that the team also has to be coached, you can't just throw lots of players together and hope for the best.

If ever there was a time to be thankful for moving house and spending the evening setting up my office for return to work tomorrow causing me to forget about the football!

I've said this many times. Man Utd haven't accepted their current status.

The club thinks it is competing with Man City and Real Madrid, it isn't. It needs to rebuild before it can get there and the club refuses to do this. Casemiro was a prime example of this. He was at the tail end of his career but he was at Real Madrid so he had a certain degree of cachet. They also spent ages courting Jude Belliingham when there was no chance on earth Bellingham would consider that sort of move.

I think United need to accept where they are now and start rebuilding with top 4 in mind, rather than trying to go out and sign players at the top end of the market. In general, if they try to compete with the top sides they'll be left with the players those sides have passed on, and they're repeatedly shown not to be good enough and/or to have attitude issues.

Liverpool (after many years of failing) eventually did it brilliantly. Signings like Henderson, Lallana, Milner, Wijnaldum, Robertson, Firmino, even Salah didn't look likely to set the world alight, but they were good enough to make the team competitive again, didn't cost the earth, and were all moving "upwards" so didn't have ideas above their station. Some turned out to be worldies, others good players who eventually got superseded, but it progressed the team.

City also did it well, signing people like Gareth Barry and Milner rather than diving straight into the top table.

Also, great though Palace have been, they are 14th with very little to play for - yet they have obliterated us.

Could have quite easily been 6 or 7 tonight, I know people often say that, but it's really true here.
