Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3rd - 6th May 2024]

I think United need to accept where they are now and start rebuilding with top 4 in mind, rather than trying to go out and sign players at the top end of the market.

One of the biggest issues however is the "united tax" - Look at Mount / Antony / McGuire etc - All player that United wanted but paid WAY over the odds for....

United will always be subject to over paying for players as it's deemed they have the money to spend......

I'm not sure that's true, they just need to buy more sensibly, and if a club comes in and asks way over the odds, move on.

Every other top team (not Chelsea!) manages it most of the time. It's not like City don't have money to spend, but they usually buy at appropriate prices, aside from full backs.

Yes but they need to be buying players who want to join them for the right reasons. They need to sign hunger instead of greed

Mount is "home" though.

That Wharton has looked a decent signing whenever I've seen him.

A lot of that is down to them being useless though as well and waiting until the very last minute. City should be having to pay a tax as well, they don’t appear to though.

Antony was rated as a £25m player by the scouts IIRC which turns out to be way more that he is but they somehow trebled that. That’s not a United tax thats just stupid.

Same with Mount.

Please give us that United team on Sunday.

Most likely win nothing this year but it's been one of the most enjoyable seasons of football to watch between ourselves being excellent and all the teams i grew up loathing having shockers.

‘Onanas left boot got suck in the turf’

That right there sums him up.
i just think they should have kept de gea, got him on cheaper contract and saved silly price for onana. It wasn't De Gea who who caused us the issues last season.
I remember Schmeichel used to be irate if someone got a shot off at him. Amount of shots we take is crazy. Oh well never know might beat Arsenal.

I know Onana's not been a success but I think people are forgetting how many mistakes De Gea was making in his last few seasons. He needed replacing, Utd just found a way of replacing him with somebody worse.

i dont think its just because they have money, no other big money club has had its pants down so many times.

For all Roy Keanes comments about Haaland, Onana is the worst keeper I've ever seen, and I played Sunday League.

Onana is a really strange one. His technique (if that's what you can call it) is really unorthodox. He's made a few really good saves, but his general shot stopping is pretty dodgy.

I remember Peter Schmeichel saying he didn't look like a proper goalkeeper a few months ago.

I'd like to see him playing in a team that actually knows how to play together before judging him too harshly. The amount of shots he faces is obscene.

I've played a lot of cricket, and you'd occasionally come up against a player (particularly bowlers) who hadn't been coached as a kid, and were clearly talented but were bizarre technically. Onana reminds me of that.
