What's that got to do with it. If it hits a hand it can be a foul or penalty regardless of whether it was intentional. If you slide in to block a shot at an empty net and the striker smacks it into your arm at 100mph and that prevents a goal it will be a penalty.

Not true though, penalties aren't giving if its unintentional, of course they are as it's humans making the decisions :p

Exactly. You can argue all you want about the "rules of the game" but if the ball is going to go in and the defender blocks it with his arm and the referee sees it he will give a penalty. The punishment the player receives will then depend on if it was intentional or not.

The ref apologised to the other team at half time so he knew that he had made the wrong decision.
