Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 15th August 2011]

Gervinho should have been sent off, but so should barton, he picked him off the floor for nothing, oh and it was a penalty , so barton is totally out of order as he didn't dive

Yeh, just watched a slow mo replay, seems like there was contact. Probably not enough to make him go sprawling down like that, but that's never stopped the likes of Rooney and Gerrard.

Steven Taylor as as guilty of being a **** as Barton, wasn't it he who accidentily hit Barton then told the ref Gervinhio elbowed him (Barton) and pointed him out for the ref.

Footballers are such thick *****.

EDIT: Gervinhio did slap him, still Taylor was an arse for saying he elbowed him.

exactly he was clipped, went down, rooney would have been all over that, barton just needs to get banned forever, i mean how many other jobs can you get with the convictions he has?

I thought that was quite low of Steven Taylor, he signalled to the referee at the time that Barton had been elbowed but then in the post match interview said he didn't see anything... that makes him either a liar or a cheat.

I agreed with Keegan and Pardew on the matter, I thought Gervinho was looking to con the referee by manufacturing a contact.

So by the next league game we're likely to be missing Gervinho and Song, on top of the rest who are on their way out, yay. Without looking it up its, Udinese, Pool, Udinese again then Utd?

Looks like those 4 games are over the space of 12 games.

This Wenger, you absolute ****tard, is why you replace players early and have them ready for the start of the season. I was also worried with the lack of games players played anything over 45mins, and it showed, most of the team looked very noticeably tired only 55-60mins into the game.

Though I think in its current state, there's a line between wholesome diving and 'manufacturing a contact' to con the ref. Half the forwards in the PL look for contact in the area and go down like a sack o potatoes when they get it. The mantra on motd last season was 'there was contact, so it's a pen'.

Not that I agree with that at all.

So you're on twitter DM? I want to follow you :)

I won't go near twitter with a barge pole, social media in general is built to keep morons entertained.

Honestly, meh, you see contact on the replay, at first glance it in no way looked a penalty, had that happened at the other end Song would have gone off on whoever went down aswell, thats no excuse, for either of them.

Barton probably had a right to feel aggreived, but had no right to go after Gervinho, Gervinho had every right to be angry at Barton but he went straight into crazy angry mode himself and had no right to girly slap Barton, who had no right to dive like he'd been punched, nor go around telling everyone he was punched hard.

Both should have got red cards in that game, as should Song, as should Theo(just to make me feel better).

I thought colocini & taylor did fairly good for newcastle defending wise and obertan was really the only attacking player for newcastle who did anything remotely half decent , a left back & decent striker needed pronto and if arsenal didnt try to walk the ball into the net it would have been easy game over before half time .

HAHAHAH. Barton should have been sent off for picking Gervinho up?! Sure it was out of order but a red card? You're funny guy. You're lucky you finished with 10 players.

Had that have been Barton who stamped on somebody you'd all be going bananas.

I don't condone Barton's reaction to the 'slap' but Gervinho dived twice and Song gets his stamp on, yet all the focus is still on Joey? Weak.
