Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 15th August 2011]

Was impress by sanchez last night, looks like he's a nice fit to the barca style of play. The more i see the RM the more i think they are Wimbledon with some skills. Pepe is thug and will get some injured soon.

Sanchez looked great, always running at people, very fast great control. There was one pass from the back high and long to him he just plucked out the air turned passed it and ran off down the wing great move.
As said he fits the mould for the style of Barcelona and gives them something else. Also another goal scorer isn't he got quite a few last season.

Thiago just looks like he has played in that team for ages looks so comfortable his vision is brilliant as is his control.

The other thing is Im not sure what experienced goalie Utd really had a shot at that would have made a huge difference. Yes maybe a seasoned EPL one would have allowed Utd to win Charity Shield 3-0, and yesterday 2-0.....but anyone apart from Reina and Cech (neither of whom were actually available) wouldnt make a difference in the big matches anyway .......well possibly Given, but he was at City anyway until recently so that wouldnt have made any difference to availability either. Did you ever read whether Buffon was ever actually available (and his transfer cost and weekly wages would have made the deal as expensive as Sneijder imo considering how few years Utd would have him for anyway)

Exactly this, we have the best young keeper prospect in the world, time and time again we have missed out on top players when they were young through dithering and inaction, now we have have one people are moaning.
There were no available keepers who are vastly better than the level he is at now, and certainly no keepers available with the potential that De Gea has either.
People are moaning, he has a 100% win ratio so far and has made some cracking saves too, he looks comfortable taking crosses and assured when the ball is passed back to him, even after he let the soft on in with the crowd at his back and under pressure from a forward he was not flustered, neither did he mindlessly hack the ball in to touch, it was one touch out of his feet and a composed kick up field, more often than not straight to a united player.

Although Alan Hanson says de gea has lost the trust of his defence. hopefully he can string some performances together but city aren't exactly a free scoring side sans tevez and wba without odemwingie aren't huge scorers either. good to start with an away win though rather than another draw!

Looking forward to Siddy v Swansea. Really hoping that Swansea can pull something off, they really do play some nice stuff at times and even if they go back down they're gonna be a good team to watch.

Song charged for his stamp. Good. Hopefully (the completely green) Frimpong can take his place now as I'm sick to death of his ineffectiveness as a DM and ability to harvest yellow cards like Pokemon.

Did anyone watch MOTD3 online? Hardly inspiring tbh.

According to Dixon and Dublin, Rooney, Young and Torres were the stars of the weekend. I think i agree with that really.

Dixon thinks Man Utd look unbeatable. Not sure about that, as they didn't play that well against West Brom, but i'm finding it hard to look past them for the league this year really. I am hardly inspired by the Chelsea or Arsenal squads tbh, i think Liverpool and City might be the biggest challengers

He definitely needs to do something about the amount of bookings he gets. It's not as if they are breaking up dangerous attacks, most of them are in the opponents half for something stupid.

Man City: Hart; Richards, Clichy, Lescott, Kompany; de Jong, Barry, Yaya Toure; Johnson, Silva, Dzeko.

Taylor, Zabaleta, Savic, Kolarov, Milner, Balotelli, Aguero

Swansea: Vorm; Rangel, Williams, Caulker, Tate; Britton, Agustien, Dobbie; Dyer, Graham, Sinclair

Don't underestimate Hodgeson/WBA, they were fantastic from the day Hodgeson joined, I think only 2-3 points shy of matching Liverpools points tally from the game he joined onwards. IF they'd played like that all season they'd have been pushing for Europe.

EDIT:- I underestimated, from the 12th Feb(I think his first game in charge) WBA took one more point than Liverpool in the final 13 games, 21 vs 20 points. Chelsea/Utd took 26 points, I'm assuming no one else took more, I can't be arsed to check more.

They're surprisingly good and don't forget, Nani was barely awake in that game, Welbeck will only get a couple more chances before Hernandez/Berbatov get the nod ahead of him(if that won't happy straight away) and Cleverley will likely come out of his shell a little, a better second striker and Cleverley being freed up to come late into the box like Scholes and Nani in form and Utd have quite a way to improve, and yet, still won against an impressive side.

He's just rubbish, inability to tackle and the vast majority of his are because he lets someone run past him then bundles into them from behind, he does that a LOT around the box, infact moreso in dangerous area's that the opposition half. The ridiculous thing is, if he can't tackle, reads the game badly and offers nothing going forwards, why is he on the pitch?

It's Ade all over again.

Yet Wenger is still desparately trying to get someone who doesn't want to be at Arsenal, someone who isn't good enough, and doesn't have a best position because he's not good enough in any single area, to stay on an absurd wage, for no reason.

Then again, most turned on Ade quite justifiably when he tried to smeg off to Milan, and anywhere that would give him more money, Wenger rewarded him for failing to secure a move, by doubling his wages aswell. Yet again he shows he hasn't learnt from his past mistakes.
