Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 17th September 2014]

I think we'll lose him if we don't play him tbh. Several times this season we've played the likes of Valencia over him, must be pretty maddening for him to see that talentless hack chosen ahead of him.

For the most part Valencia has been played as a wingback and imo lindegard and Januzaj are even more of a disaster waiting to happen at the defensive side ( although I agree they both give 100% more than AV offensively).

Thankfully there's Phil jones and Smalling who can play right back once fit, because despite me not liking them either, they're still markedly better than Valencia, who I'm literally bewildered is still capable of being in a manager's plans.

Good result and performance to build upon.

Rojo looked good, there was only one risky moment, which I put down to Blackett letting the ball go.

Blind was great, sitting infront of the back two, bringing the ball out and moving it forwards. He's basically a much better Carrick, not afraid of trying a good pass, has a great engine, and likes a tackle. I'd noticed his tackles weren't super effective, he bounced off a couple of people, but you can build that up, and it was the pressure on the player that would cause them to make mistakes in the end.

Herrera was brilliant and been covered plenty.

Looking forward to seeing us at full strength, shaw in at left back, I'd then rather remove Evans and have Rojo and Blackett centre backs with Rafael at right back. Liked our midfield diamond, they were my picks prior. Then I'd go Rooney and Falcao. RVP wasn't in the game enough yesterday and when he was on the ball he looked a little bow legged as he has lately.

Well I wouldn't play a goalkeeper at wing back.

ooh soo funny

Think thats a little harsh. Remember Carrick @ Spurs and he was a completely different player to how he is thought of now - mainly due to (probably) being asked to play a certain way by SAF for years. Also being about 8 years younger probably accounts for a lot too (and trying to impress a new manager which is fair enough).

Rojo and Blackett will be hammered by the likes of City, Chelsea even Liverpool and Arsenal imo, for a while Utd need a bit of experience at the back (or use 3 CB when available).

RvP was a little poor yesterday, looked a yard off the pace probably still building up fitness etc

For all the fuss about him last year, he was pretty average in a terrible team so stood out.
I personally don't think he is ready for the first team in an extended spell, his decision making at times is dreadful.

As a United fan, I think he should be out on loan at this time.

I disagree I thought he was excellent last year, but I agree he should be loaned out, to us ;):D I think he is a player that would thrive under Martinez, after all he's not a defender :D

Not even remotely harsh, here's harsh.

8 years ago, and despite that, he's been utterly average for about 6 years. I'm sorry, but i refuse to believe he's good enough for United now, yet alone in recent years. He's exactly what has been wrong with our team, no energy in the centre and a integral problem with SAF's failure to recruit, he believed Carrick was good enough so let the center stagnate into a rotten core, yet it was plain as day to anyone with two working eyes, Carrick doesn't belong in the top teams, he's basically Cleverly but older. No outstanding trait, no engine, nothing a top level professional footballer should possess.

8 years ago... Why don't we bring back bobby, that was only what, 50 years ago... can still do a job surely. Michael Carrick is 33 years old, he isn't Benjamin Button and he more relevantly he certainly isn't in the 1 in 1 Million category of a player like Pirlo.

Rojo/Blackett can't be any worse than Evans has been the past 3 games, shocking player on the ball.

.

Because he was expected to do both roles (and cover for a much weaker partner most of the time) at once

While SAF did allow the team to stagnate, Carrick was a valuable part of the 1st XI team for a lot longer than you are giving him credit for.

Fantastic strike, not a bad header for the first goal, ultimate lack of quality in the game though and not enough shots.

Zarate looks interesting, making some good runs and looks good on the ball but not done and awful lot with it in terms of getting himself in a shooting chance or making that killer pass.

3 shots on target in the game so far. Hull look incredibly pedestrian and their goal came completely out of the blue. As did Valencia's, though not as much against the run of play it was West Ham's first and currently only shot on target.

Yippee!

It could only be Diame, couldn't it?

Still, Hull haven't played that great so far, possession wise they are not doing well, but seem to be taking their chances.
